My Office has been running flawlessly since I installed it.

Got a couple of new updates a few days ago and now it is having an issue.

Everytime I start up an office related program, (say Word), a Configuration Window pops up with a progress bar that says "Configuring MS Office Pro Plus 2010".

Initially, it would halt about 75%, with an error about Fonts unable to install. Sorry, I forgot to write it down.

So, I ran Office Repair from the setup, and it has now changed - it no longer comes up with the error, it seems to finish properly, but it still starts every time I start up any Office program. This thing takes a couple of minutes to go through the progress bar, so it's very annoying.

After that Office seems to start and run normally. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi 1metalguru,

Simple reg hack!

Fix

Snick:

Nope, doesn't seem to have worked. I downloaded and installed the file, and it ran fine, but the configuration issue is still there. Everytime I open Word or Excel, it runs first. See attached screenshot.

Thanks anyway, but it seems to have another cause. Perhaps I should just go back to before the updates?

Hmm...
Another from Microsoft
Major Geeks Website Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool 1.2
Direct Download@MajorGeeks

You can try uninstalling update if you think you know the culprit.

At the admin CMD type or copy paste with mouse from word, wordpad, notepad, etc.
change the number to offending update and yes there is a : between B & 1

wusa /uninstall /KB:1234567 /quiet

Snick:

I ran the Configuration analyzer, it found a few things like logging was on, old bluetooth enabled. etc. Fixed all those.

But, it also says I don't have SP1 installed for Office, but I downloaded the new 32 bit SP2 and it says there is nothing to update. SP1 is no longer supported, it said SP2 should work.

That's the only error I have left in Config analyzer.

There are 6 updates received a few days ago, how would I tell which one is causing this?

One curious thing, all of the updates in Update History listed for Office show as being 64 bit updates, my office is only 32 bit according to the File/Help listing. I tried both the 32- and 64-bit SP2 updates, they both say "There are no products affected by this package installed on this system".

Snick:

That fixed it. One of the manual fixes in the Microsoft support link worked. Surprisingly enough, the automated "let us fix it" did not work...

Thanks so much Snick. Kudos for your boundless patience and infinite tenacity!

Townsbg:

No idea. it was one of the six that MS pushed on July 16th, that's all I know.

The reg fix eliminated the problem, but there was no clue as to which update was the cause.
