Windows 7 Professional 32 & 64 bit DVDs -- DVDs got scrambled between desktop and one laptop.
Is a Product ID and a Product Key embedded, hard-coded, into each true blue, Microsoft, DVD? I already have the info from the hard-drives, I am asking only about the MS DVDs. These are not OEMs. If yes, what utility can extract id and key from each DVD?
Yes, i also asked bleepingcomputer - in the middle of repair install.

Make sure that you have your Product Key for the version of Windows that you are re-installing. This is the ONLY version that you will be able to activate. It will be on your original DVD installation disk. If you have a desktop, it will probably be on the back of the tower. If you have a laptop, it will either be on a sticker onthe bottom, or in the battery compartment. If the sticker is too worn to read, or there isn't one, then you can retrieve it by either using Belarc Advisor or Magic Jelly Bean. Write this Product Key down and keep it in a safe place.

If the codes are embedded into the DVDs - I want to match the DVDs with the right computer.
If the codes are not embedded into the DVDs, then it doesn't matter which original DVDs go with which computer.

The original installation media [DVD] does NOT have the product key embedded. That is why people can borrow one to use for installation, because it is the product key that activates it!

That absolutely helps! In the older days, I believe Windows 3.1 - Windows 95-98SE did have their DVDs embedded with product id and/or key. I just was not sure about Windows 7. Now that I know, end of problem

The key is not linked to the media.
If you have the key you can use with any media (32 or 64 bits)

As others have said, the product key was supplied separately from the install media.

That doesn't help you identify which DVD is 32-bit and which is 64-bit though. To do that, open the \Sources\idwbinfo.txt file. The architecture of the install media is given there.

64-bit:

None, because it's not there. The key CAN be extracted from the installed Win7 OS though with ShowKeyPlus, Option Two here...


Product Key Number for Windows 7 - Find and See

The Product ID plays no part in activating Windows and is not needed. It just identifies where your W7 came from, eg. an OEM or a Retail install.

Win7 ISO has all version on it for whatever bit 32 64
Use the eicfg_removal_utility and it is all in one accessible only your key version will activate
Your 25 character product key is what M$ defends as it's property, and rightly so.

OEM reinstall media usually contains the oem generic key and xml file.

The regular MS installation media does not.

Look inside \sources\$OEM$\$$\setup\scripts\









That is the standard DELL win7 Pro key - it only works if combined with the correct xml file and slic table in the bios.

If you have the OEM slic table in bios:

EITHER
Use OEM reinstall media

OR
Use regular MS install media and 7oeminstaller

OR
Use regular MS install media and the key on the sticker that came with the machine ( if you can find and read it)
