greetings windows 7 folks.

I have had the following issue with this process to install windows 7 on my Dell xps 9550 and still no luck: Dell XPS 15" (9550) - Windows 7 Config | davidzou.com

  • loaded usb 3.0 drivers successfully (I guess)
  • got to windows installation screen and still cannot load any intel based driver or Samsung driver for m NVMe ssd.
Specs of this piece of trash:
Dell xps 15 9550 15.6"
i7-6700HQ
32Gb Ram
1TB ssd (samsung PM951 NVMe 1024GB)

Lastly:

  • I have no clue how to use DISM ++ (maybe it needs to be compiled? i dunno holy F*^&)
  • I have tried slipstreaming drivers with Ntlite.... and no luck...
  • I have tried Cmd dism tool and cannot get drivers unblocked
  • Logged 48.8hrs over the past three weeks working on this.

just curious, I am assuming that I will still have to use Rufus after the iso is created?

If you want to extract the iso to usb - you can use rufus, or usb7ice, etc.

Atak's thing is very big and it takes a while to build the media.

You can leave out things you don't need.

1. e.g. It is quicker to update the wim first using something like dism++. Then you can uncheck the updates boxes in the UI

2. You can delete ( or move elsewhere ) any stuff you don't want included in the iso.

For example If you are not going to use it on AMD machine, you could get rid of this :

Remember to comment it out in setupcomplete.cmd

Have a look and see if there is anything else you don't want.

I could not get DISM++ to run at all. Is there a tutorial somewhere for Dism++?

I would like to take you up on this offer. Do you have the Win7x64 Home premium version still?

I am not aware of any tutorials for DISM++!
Here's a SevenForums post
Windows 7 slipstreaming with Dism++
Yes, I have Win7x64HP ISO, & All In One ISO
As SIW2 stated, uploading patched ISO to you will take a while.
Still game?

I just spent the morning into this evening patching it myself and no luck.

  • got to the end of the installation (completion phase?) and BSOD during final restart.
  • tried this three times and same outcome.
If you can upload a version that will work windows 7 home premium 64 bit that would be much appreciated. thank you so much for your help
Lastly, I got your message but I cannot respond back.

Is your messaging not working, you can't respond?

The Win7x64.iso with drivers and updates was created with Atak's Windows7 Image Updater is about 5GB, SevenForums rules won't allow Win7iso upload on site (copyright).
I Prefer using TeamViewer for secure transfers. No upload, download, strait to you. You disconnect when transfer complete. Piece of cake.
Will that work?

Bill

It finally works!

what happened: BSOD at final phase of restarts, boot loop.

What worked:

Making sure to turn of CSM (or dells equivalent) in bios
at (dell) screen press F8 (boot without driver something something....) click that one!

windows booted up.

For the sorry soul who comes across this post:

Windows 7 Image Updater - SkyLake\KabyLake\CoffeLake\Ryzen Threadripper

Important notes:

  • This tool won't work with custom images containing both x86 and x64 versions!
  • Make sure that you have more than 20 GiB of free space!
  • Whole updating process may take even few hours!
  • Yes .7z archive is huge because there are two windows 10 installers included (x86 and x64) and bunch of drivers!
  • CSM must be enabled in BIOS!
  • SECURE BOOT must be disabled in BIOS!
  • USB ports won't work on Intel H370 , B360 , H310 and newer chipsets! Use external PCI controller!

Glad your issue is resolved, please mark thread as so.
