MS releases SP2 for Windows 7

1. Put the patch in the same directory as UpdatePack7R2-19.11.15.exe.

2. Run the patch and it creates UpdatePack7R2-19.11.18.exe.

3. Then open cmd prompt and type:

path_to_UpdatePack7R2-19.11.18.exe /ie11 /WimFile="path_to_Install.wim" /Index=3
If you don't want ie11, then omit the switch like this:
path_to_UpdatePack7R2-19.11.18.exe /WimFile="path_to_Install.wim" /Index=3

index=2 is home premium
index=3 is pro
index=4 is ultimate



Or you can use my batch file to do the job for you.

The process seems pretty simple. As to 'install.wim'. Do I need to extract that from my Win 7 SP1 iso or does the update pack find it on the system it's run from?

To update a Win 7 installation disk you must extract all files and folders from a iso (or copy from your DVD) to a folder on your computer. Let's assume you have:
Win 7 iso extracted files on C:\Win7Inst
UpdatePack7R2-19.11.15.exe on C:\Update

Win 7 64 bits Installation disk has the 4 brands:
index=1 is Home
index=2 is Home Premium
index=3 is Pro
index=4 is Ultimate

Let's say you want to add the Simplix updates to Pro
The CMD code would be:

C:\Update\UpdatePack7R2-19.11.15.exe /ie11 /WimFile=C:\Win7Inst\sources\Install.wim /Index=3
Or
C:\Update\UpdatePack7R2-19.11.15.exe /WimFile=C:\Win7Inst\sources\Install.wim /Index=3

As there will be more updates till Jan 20, I would only slipstream after last Simplix update.

Win 7 64 bits Installation disk has the 4 brands:

minor correction - index1 should be "Home Basic" [helps to be accurate]


the Win7 32bit/x86 ISO has 5 editions/indexes instead of 4 which includes Starter and the starter edition is 32bit only

I’m doing a clean install of Windows 7 on a new HDD.
I already have Window 7 and SP1 installed & ready to install KB3125574.

Do I still need to install KB3020369, KB3125574 and KB3172605 as mentioned in the first posting, or does some newer Servicing Stack Update take the place of these?

It also indicates to install in sequence: kb3179573, KB947821, & KB2813347. Is this still required, or just run the normal Windows Updates? IOW will these be superceded by newer versions?

Regarding the Servicing Stack Updates. Do all of them need to be installed in sequence as the normal updates are being installed? Or will installing just the latest Servicing Stack Update from the beginning handle the requirements of all the previous ones?

I did initially read through this thread but was getting a bit confused about patches & updating a Win 7 disc & using cmd prompts.

Just to clarify, Simplex has all the updates since Win 7 was released? IOW SP1 is not needed? I already have SP1 installed, will this create a problem?

Clicking on the link in posting #10 brings up UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe and it’s 850MB. I’m presuming this is a newer version?

Posting #17 mentions a patch & provides links to the UpdatePack and also to the patch.. However both links appears to provide the same UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe. (850MB).

Does that mean the patch is no longer needed?

I don’t need to update a Win 7 installation disk at this point because Win 7 and SP1 are already on the new HDD. Do I just click on UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe file to install it? Can it be installed from a DVD or EHD?

The KB3125574 is a single file that contain all updates since Win 7 released to April 2016. (security and non security updates)
From April 2016 to today, many other updates has been released, in monthly packages Rollup and security only updates. To avoid telemetry and unnecessary updates, I have set Services - Windows Update - Manual. On WU page I have set it to Never check and monthly I install the Security ONLY updates. I then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

As an alternative, my suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run UpdatePack7R2
Simplix is a single file (750MB) that contain all updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has all security and non security updates without the trash (telemetry and tracking). Very good.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

To uninstall the telemetry, run cmd file to uninstall those KB files.
kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

The important lines in your post

This windows 7 came up Internet Expl ..7 or 8....It has been impossible to move it to I.E. 9, 10 or 11
In the Control Panel...Turn Windows features on or off.. I see one of the boxes does state I.E. 11

your contradicting yourself

SP2 requires SP1 ---- IE8 comes prior to SP1 so i have to assume youve NOT got SP1

Updates do NOT require any further IE upgrades
(my mrs lappy only has IE8, turned OFF, still updates)

Yes, it works for both bit versions.

Recommend download the patch also https://update7.simplix.info/UpdatePatch-19.12.19.exe

put the updatepatch next to UpdatePack7R2-19.12.15.exe. Then run the updatepatch and it will create newer UpdatePack7R2-19.12.19.exe

Or wait 10 days for the January version.

I have approx 80 W7 security updates on this system, and 54 MS off security updates, on the earlier created and now restored backup. Hope they won't conflict.
And the exe. would only install the required, or overwrite all windows security updates?
