Hello,

Today, I try to combine multiple files into one file by using "copy" under command line window. I got error info "The syntax of the command is incorrect."

I am pretty sure it's nothing to do with PATH environment setting as I can still use xcopy or dir command.

I scan with sfc /scannow, and did not find any integrity violations.

I searched the whole windows directory, and I can not find copy or type commands too.

It's kinda weird as some commands are still available, like dir, path, xcopy. But some commands are missing, like copy, delete, type.

I searched a lot on net and could not find a clue. Anyone could help? Thanks.

No, it's not weird. COPY, TYPE and many others are internal commands in CMD.EXE, while XCOPY is an external command with it's own .exe.

The most likely explanation is that there was an unnoticed syntax error in the command you used. Type COPY /? to see the help for Copy, or see here:

Ouch, I am so dumb today. I read "The syntax of the command is incorrect" as "the command is missing". Maybe I am tired after working 8 hrs. :D

Everything is fixed now. Thanks.
