Belkin F5D7050 v4 Driver Causes BSOD

I've been trying to find a resolution for this because I am interested in buying a game that requires DirectX 10 support. I am currently on XP, but have recently purchased Windows 7. Unfortunately for me, my network adapter, a Belkin Wireless G USB stick model F5D7050 v4, doesn't appear to have working drivers for Windows 7.

I can get the device installed, and working, but when I utilize the connection for anything from opening a website to pinging an IP, the computer will immediately go to a blue screen error.

I have tried both x86 and x64 installations of the OS as well as various workarounds others encountering this problem have used with success to no avail on my end.

I would just use a wired connection if I could, but alas, that is not possible to do as my machine is just too far from the router to utilize any of the patch cables I have (the maximum being only 25').

If anyone here has found a solution to this, please tell me. Hopefully, it won't be a method I've tried and hopefully it will work for me

I'm assuming that you've aleady tested the latest drivers for that NIC, given you're confident that Belkin doesn't yet appear to be providing drivers tagged as being "Win 7 compatible".

If so, the problem will come down to a bug in the current driver, or some sort of interference from an AV or 3rd-party firewall utility.

If it's a bug, there's no practical solution. While it's theoretically possible that there may be a way to limit the types of activity performed by the driver to bypass the bug(s), that is highly impractical and even improbable.

If you're running AV or a 3rd-party firewall, you might want to check what happens when they're completely uninstalled ("disabling" them is not a valid test).

After that, I'd personally be thinking about buying a different make/model of wireless NIC.

It can't be a conflict with a firewall or AV since I have none installed ATM.

But I have sent a query to Belkin asking if they themselves have a solution or if they are working on a driver for it. Their knowledge base says that for many products, Windows 7 drivers are going through Microsoft's certification process.

I may just end up either buying a different adapter, or maybe a cable long enough to be able to string from where my machine is to the router.

Just wanted to let you know I have the exact same problem with the same usb wireless adapter with the same driver. I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit on one of my computers and everytime I try anything (do updates, install skype or even surf the web and so on) it'll download/install for a bit, then go into BSOD. This problem happened as well when I had Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.

I think its the Belkin device thats actually causing the problem because when I pull it out and use ethernet cable straight from my router to the computer. It had no problem. I've also used other USB devices like a Linksys Wireless G and it's never caused this problem.

Anyone know any information about this?

Ok so its definitely the Belkin Wireless USB card. I just installed my old old OLD iNexq Wireless G USB adapter (which is discontinued and the company no longer exists) and downloaded the drivers off driverguide. Plugged my adapter in, click update drivers and pointed where they were. No BSOD problems.

But if anyone finds a way to stop the BSOD from the Belkin adapter, that'd be great. Wouldn't wanna throw this out.

Prevail upon Belkin to debuggify the driver code and release a new version. Send them minidumps which show their current (latest) driver causing bluescreens.

Ultimately, they're driven by customer demand. If they see enough customers requesting the same fix, they may be tempted to oblige.

Unfortunately, it is completely out of the question for me to be without internet, and I just want to move over to 7 once and for all.

I will only be using the Belkin adapter with XP for as long as it takes before I am able to buy another adapter or, what I am more likely going to do, cut my own patch cables and wire them through the house.

Possible Solution

Try this out:

Go into control panel - network connections (or whatever the W7 equivalent is)
Right click on your wireless connection and choose properties
If "StreamSurge" is checked, un-check it.

I'm running XP and was having the same issue.

Rejoice, fellow Belkin users! They've recently release a new v4 with compatability specs: "Windows 2000, Windows XP 32 bit, Windows XP 64 bit, Windows Vista 32 bit, Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 32 bit, Windows 7 64 bit; size: 18.6 Mb"!! So go ahead and try it. I've been using it and it seems to have fixed my problem !

Man am I sure glad I didn't cancel my subscription to this thread; I had all about given up hope of Belkin releasing new software.

edit: Awesome. Working just fine. I am posting this from Windows 7 and I haven't had a single BSOD :O
