I am in the process of migrating from a Win7/Pro X64 computer to a Win10 computer. I'm perfectly satisfied with the Word and Excel version included with the version of Office 2000 Small Business.
I find under Help>About for Word and Excel the "Product ID" which is the same.
Is there a file for the installation that will give me access to the COA I used? I'm at an impasse with Win10/Pro X64 in that I can no longer find the COA I used.
Is there a chance that I can blow by the requested COA and complete the installation.
I'm trying to use the process described in:

Excel has a problem with win 10. you can view an excel file, but creating and changing has problems. it just freezes and will not let you do anything.

Hmm, I wonder if that's unique to Excel 2000. My wife has been using Office/Excel 2003 on Win10 on a near-daily basis for a year now and has never had any problems. I would not expect 2000 to be very different from 2003, but I haven't tried 2000 so I could be wrong.

I should note that I ran the Office 2003 installer with admin elevation. Once installed it runs fine with user privileges, but it needed admin privileges during installation.

When I was running Excel 2000, it was installed on win 7. then MS offered windows 10 for free and i installed/upgraded.
That gave me a digital license. At that point excel was running fine. I then decided to do a clean install of win 10 and installed all my software and that is when the problem happens. I was told that win 10 will need at least office 10 to run properly. But that could just be a problem on my Computer, who knows, it might work on yours.

I just went back and looked at my posts and it was office 2003.

Thank you dg1261

When I ran Windows Key Finder it only reported the key for the Windows 7 OS.
This was true even when a copy of Word was running.
Can I perhaps just blow off the request for a key for Office 2000?

thanks

Hmm, on follow-up, 2003 does appear to be different enough from 2000. I just did an experiment installing Office 2000 and Office 2003 on a clean Win 10 Home VM. (To keep it simple I only installed Word and Excel, not any of the other components.) Office 2003 installed without any problem, but Office 2000 complained about failures to register a handful of DLLs.

After finishing, 2000 reported it installed "successfully" despite the error messages -- and Excel does indeed launch and appear to run okay, but I have no idea what functionality may be missing due to the DLL errors. (I got exactly the same results as the author in baumgrenze's link in post #1.) I even tried installing as admin, installing in XP compatibility mode, and manually registering DLLs, but none of those efforts made any difference.

Can I perhaps just blow off the request for a key for Office 2000?

No, I don't believe you can skip the license key when installing. With the Office 2000/2003 CDs I tested, it would not allow me to skip that step.
