Hi,

my laptop spec are:

Core 2 duo T5800 2GHz
3GB DDR2 RAM 667
ATI HD 3470

Can this handle 64bit? I see some people here have good experiences with 4GB ram, but some recommended 8GB.

Hello FreddyC.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

So far so good. You can check out the rest of your system here. Windows Vista Compatibility Center

After selecting a category, be sure to click on '64 bit Windows Vista' at the bottom right.

Gary

Edit: It might be listed in the specs for your lappy. Check out the manufacturers site.

Thanks,

if I do decide to upgrade from win7 32 to 64, is it just a simple upgrade or would I have to/should really do a fresh install?

Would running x64 on a VM first help at all to determine whether its right for the laptop?

First thing is first:
System requirements are irrelevant. It's the exact same as the x86 version of the operating systems, if not less. All you need to know is whether your CPU supports the x64 instruction set (which is often referred to as AMD64, EMT64, x64-86 and less often INTEL64). And then fresh install the 64-bit OS over.

You'll never go back!

Might be nice to know the x64 drivers exist for all the hardware *before* the fresh install. Also should download them all so you have them handy if needed.

4gb is the sweet spot for x64. 9/10 8gb won't give you a performance boost.
