I dont see myself moving to windows 10+ ever for a main oc. dont care for the gui and dont care for the telemetry.

I have a laptop with w10 which I now use it to convert raw images to jpeg in batches but it takes hours and really works the system hard. . I got a newer pc and want to make that my main pc but it has win7. so I need w10 to run on this pc somehow. for some photo editing software.

what are my options? vmware is not something I care for.at all. the drive I have win7 on cant have w10 on it.
I dont know if something like this exists but was wondering if theres a way to switch between drives on the fly?

for instance, I have 2 pc connecting to 1 monitor and switch between them with a switch. is there such a thing to have 2 drives running with different OS in the same case/pc both running and switch between them on the fly? I could use my older pc for editing raw images and thats much faster then the laptop but pita to have it on a different pc

what options are there? Im not interested in virtual software please.

thank you and enjoy your weekend.

All 4 of my Dell minitower PC's have 2 storage drives.
Windows 7 is installed in one and Windows 10 is installed in the other.
When I start up any of them, a boot menu appears and allows me to choose which operating system to boot from.

If your PC supports the use of 2 storage drives, you should be able to set it up the same way.
Just make sure to install Windows 7 in one first before you install Windows 10 in the other.
There are numerous on-line pictorial guides that show you how to do it.

thank you for your reply. I realize I could have multiple drives. but im guessing there isnt any way to switch to a drive on the fly, other then rebooting? no faster way to switch between to drives/os?

nikon raw editor and acdsee pro. I also want to learn video editing. as im now in the midst of shooting weddings as a learning video shooter. I need to learn editing too.

so many programs dont support w7, sadly.

@flavallee mentioned multiple drives to choose on boot, but thats a slow process. is that the fastest option to switch back and forth between 2 OS?

ACDSEE Pro is supported in Win 7. I don't know about the other. I think you can convert your images from RAW to the common formats using either the Nikon software on a camera or in the editor. There's a lot of other photo editing software for Win 7 such as Adobe, but one has to pay for it.

not the newer acdsee ones. also raw support is not possible with newer nikon cameras on win7 with nikon software. I can use something like rawtherappe or darktable but id also like acdsee.

I have 2 newer nikon cameras. I have nikon capture NX-d and it doesnt open those raw files.

I havent used an adobe product for at least 7 years now. I do like acdsee.

adobe doesnt support windows 7. funny how they security reasons but their flash plugin was a huge security issue.

If you don't like VMWare why don't you try VirtualBox? You can use VirtualBox to create a Windows 10 virtual machine on your Windows 7 computer. Note the Windows 10 virtual machine will not be as fast as one with Windows 10 installed directly on the computer. You will have to test it to see if the virtual machine is fast enough for you.

Below is a screen shot of the desktop of my desktop computer with Windows 7 Home. You can also see the desktop of the virtual machine with Windows 10 Home.
