Cannot Repair W7 Professional OS With Full ISO Installation Disc

Good afternoon.

I am experiencing trouble with one of my video games and have deduced that my W7 Professional OS itself is the culprit. Someone tried to test my problem on W7 themselves and could not reproduce it, so I assume that my OS is faulty.

I followed the instructions to perform an in-place "upgrade" using the full W7 installation disc. However, that failed, and it told me that a Windows OS could not upgrade to itself.

This is the error I received:


The "upgrade" repair system went all the way to the end before it failed. My computer restarted and showed me this error.

What do I do now?

I know. The DVD that I use is a sixty-four bit installation. I've used it to recover my OS and System Images several times.

What is the actual problem, It could be a conflict with other software you use. I have found a number of odd conflicts from software you don't expect would cause the issue. Explorer 10 and 11, uninstaller utilities and Avast anti virus are some examples where simply uninstalling them has proved the point. Check to see if you are using anything your tester isn't. Have you done a memory test, to eliminate a bad RAM stick.

Yes. I have the first Service Pack. No, SFC never works and I have tried it multiple times in the past.

been reading your earlier thread (2023) regarding max ram limitation
you stated upgrading to Pro solved the problem
If the DVD your using is the Home Version it will also report this error

Anyway please run KB947821... SURT (system repair tool)

(reckon the original recovery partition is long gone)

The W7 key is a new install, BTW, because I had only purchased the "Professional" edition very recently.I want to make it clear that the "Windows VII Professional" key that I purchased IS NOT PIRATED.

I bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex machine and then customized it with far better parts. It originally had a W10 installation, but that hard drive failed. I just transferred my W7 installation from my old HP Slim Line PC to the new Dell one. As such, there was never any Dell installation media to install.

Also, because my original key was the Home Edition, the upgrade wiped my recovery tools.

I AM NOT GOING TO FACTORY RESET MY COMPUTER. That is non-negotiable and unacceptable. It is not worth erasing everything and starting completely over. I could have done that a million times over by now.
I have used the same OS and set up for fifteen years. Fifteen. Years. I have settings ranging from sounds all the way to custom Registry keys that let me right-click and open files in certain ways. My life's work is on this machine, and I take daily back ups (although the "Back Up and Restore" system also failed once I merged two partitions together on my external drive).

you could just use slp activation, the slic table in your firmware entitles the machine to win7
Rt click and run as adminstrator on the .cmd file

the product key in use is/was removed from another computer.. These OEM stickers were never intended to be resold
(Oem's had to supply a back-up key). they are legitamate in the fact they are MS approved for use but not strictly genuine
What happened in the past is that they were sold multiple times, and then MS blocked them Buyer beware

Another oddity is that final entry in the report

relates to a Eufi OEM splashscreen, not seen one before and it certainly isnt from an american install
