Any reccomendations for general Windows 7 stuff?

I've only been using win7 for not that long, but I still have no idea on what is recommended for modern-day usage. Currently I am looking for a browser other than Supremium, an antivirus besides Avast, possible OS modifications, useful gadgets that actually work, visual customization, any way to reduce lag, and a way to get some modern and old programs that don't work to work.

Notes:
I can use some apps and installers since I have VxKex. but currently I can't find an extended win7 kernel without it being filled to the brim with viruses. The ones I can't get to work that I've tried are Vocaloid 1, OpenUtau, and osu!. The main gadgets I need are system information ones, working weather, and a possible text-based/emoticon-based customizable one if that exists. Help is very appreciated.

Recommendations based on my own experiences:

Hey there, long time lurker and Windows 7 user since release (mostly)

In terms of browser, I cannot recommend r3dfox enough. You can also use Firefox, but know that it may not be as secure in the coming years given the version we have access to will be out of service soon. You can check out r3dfox on Github here: GitHub - Eclipse-Community/r3dfox: r3dfox is a modern Firefox based web browser for Windows Vista & 7. SourceForge link for downloading with older browsers. https://sourceforge.net/projects/r3dfox/

I'll also give you a hand with performance because I struggled with that on the first install of my laptop. I found the integrated GPU was unable to keep up with the insane amount of transparency effects that Windows 7 ships with. If you aren't incredibly fussed on looks, use the Windows Basic theme, or the Windows Classic theme to greatly reduce the lag and background cost on programs.

That's all I can offer for now but if I recall anything else that helped me other than getting in a searching online and these forums for specifics then I will reply in thread :)

See if Hitman Pro works for an antivirus, or use Kaspersky. I'm also pretty sure Vocaloid 2-3 should also work on her...
I haven't tested this myself, but if you want working weather widgets try this? Windows Gadgets. Free Desktop Gadgets For Windows 11 / 10 / 7 again i haven't checked myself I cant be certain its safe. If you still are not sure something you are downloading is safe use something like VirusTotal

otherwise best of luck to you!

If you're looking to reduce lag, check to see if your laptop uses a Hard Disk Drive or a Solid State Drive. If it has an HDD, consider getting an SSD and cloning your files, since they are significantly faster at reading and writing because they don't use a spinning disc. Although, they do use a bit more battery.
You'll need a 2.5 inch SATA disk if you plan on replacing your drive. Check these out on NewEgg:
Just a moment...
Just a moment...
Both are relatively cheap, but one might have more of what you're looking for. User SIW2 recommended Just a moment... to me in a different thread, and it seems to suit your needs as well. My laptop is slow too...

Just be sure to look up a guide on how to clone your files from one drive to another if you want to do this. Good luck with your laptop. :-)

Just remember to use Legacy Update and for the browser I recommend Supermium since you have all chrome extensions etc.
If you want to run unsupported software then perhaps you should try the Extended Kernel (VxKex) although is still in testing and not very stable atm.
