Just an observation, not a criticism. I suppose it's similar to what Vista users experienced when Windows 7 was coming to an end, and Windows 10 was the talk of the town. Now, it's W10 coming to an end, and W11 is the talk of the town. And so Windows 7, the best operating system MS ever produced, is consigned to the dustbin of history...

The Vista forum is almost totally dead. The XP forum has more life. Well, Vista had its problems, but its reputation is worse than it ever was. On a decent machine it ran very well, and certainly was the best-looking system MS ever made.

Windows 7, on the other hand, was and still is a powerhouse, while keeping alive the beauty of the aero desktop. I'm trying to think of ways to keep using it, to avoid upgrading to 10. The only reason I would upgrade would be to use software I can't use on W7. All related to music. If I wait until W10 is EOL, at least it wouldn't force updates on me, once it was updated to that point. So I might be able to live with it. I would install a "tiny" version of W10, to tame the embedded malware.

But I would much rather keep using W7. I'm wondering about the extended kernel. Not sure if it's worth the trouble or not. I guess it's hit or miss, in terms of what software will work on it, so no way to know without trying. Which I probably will do.

Anyway, just a few stray thoughts currently running through my head...

You think this forum is dead? It's positively vibrant compared to Eight Forums :roflmao:

I also have W7 Pro on my System Two, and several W7 Hyper-V VMs. My other machines run Windows 10/11. Their specs are in my Ten Forums & Eleven Forum profiles.

Well yeah, Windows 8 was a real stinker. Though I'm sure it has its aficionados, and there's no accounting for taste - if you like something, if it works for you, then it's a good thing. I had zero curiosity about it. At least 10 was free (if you don't count the fact that you are the product), so a lot of people tried it who might otherwise have stayed away. I think MS knew they screwed up royally with Eight, and giving it away was their "mea culpa." But for many of us, the "gift" turned out to be a Trojan Horse.

When I switched to Windows 10, it was only after the themers had done their magic and figured out how to make everything look good. When I know I could have my black folders, etc. I was ready. I'm not a power user so other than some small things the change to Ten was uneventful and I'm still on it

My reasons were the same for moving to Eleven, but also all the "added" stuff MS is doing. Now with the integrated AI and all that I'm in no hurry to move even though I know I can theme it the way I like

I will say I have so many fond memories of Seven Forums. I was active then and the forum was humming and so many talented, funny people. Not to knock Ten or Eleven, but it's never been the same

I'm still logged in here every day...
