First Post--General Questions About Win 7 Pro "Must-Have" Updates/Etc.

Background: Win 7 Pro Upgraded will all possible hardware and runs fine. I've downloaded pertinent D/Ls directly from Microsoft, Dell, Intel, and Nvidia (Gfx card). AFAIK, I got a (manually downloaded) Security update from MS a couple of days ago. I believe my Win 7 Pro sys has been fully updated, but not certain.

Computer sees light/moderate gaming use and internet connection is currently limited to "trusted" sites. I have Malwarebytes free version installed, and update/run it manually on occasion.

What are some general-use updates/tweaks that I should consider installing? I'm planning on installing Supermium browser. Have already installed "God Mode" feature.

How do I determine that Microsoft Security Essentials is installed as a replacement for the allegedly Windows Defender. If I have WD installed, how to switch over to MSE?

No doubt a common ask, but after searching, did not find anything particularly relevant. TYVM for responses!

TYVM for response. I confirmed MSE is installed and running but was looking for a way to edit my thread to revise it while you posted your response.

In general, what does the easyfix tool do?

MSE updates automatically for me yet I didn't run that.

Or run the Simplix Pack along with the 4 add-ons.

MSE history reveals numerous MS updates of all types tapering off to purely Security updates at some point in the past, so I presume up to date.

Briefly, what are the "add-ons" to the Simplix pack? Site you kindly linked requires me to register; is there another secure D/L location where the Simplix + add-ons can be had?

You will need to put the 4 *.WA files into the same folder Simplix Pack is in.
Then run the Pack.

I'm assuming your Win 7 is 64 bit.
The pack will update Win 7 to Jan 2026.


Woah, I just reread the thread and Enthousiast has taken the bypass out of the simplix pack.
I haven't updated my Win 7 machines in many moons. So I really haven't been keeping up.
You will need to install the Bypass first.

OK, now I'm confused. As mentioned, previous and ongoing manual demands for MSE updates have been successful, AFAIK. I don't recall if "Auto-Update" is activated. Update History (going back many years) seems to confirm complete updating but can provide a (lengthy) copy of official Win 7 updates from MS to confirm.
