I have been using the Simplix Update Pack 7R2 for a couple of years now and just today downloaded the January one. After it finished installing my Antivirus quarantined something called Upd7Live.exe. There is some mention of it on various sites that seem to be undecided if it is harmful or benign. I also see comments about people dumping W7 because the update no longer works.
Can anyone else confirm what is actually happening? I have had no previous trouble with the Simplix Update. I am wondering if I should leave the UPD7Live.exe in quarantine or delete it completely for good measure. Are the Simplix Updates now going down?

A lot of things have gone wrong since the update. Would some sort of system fix or back tracking to an earlier date get it all working again? Or is it time to find out about Linux? Desperate if I can't get things working again. CCleaner doesn't work, Malware bytes doesn't work, can't get into Yahoo mail, software icons have been replaced by some generic rectangle and don't open the link, etc.

I haven't installed simplix since December. If you can find that file you might try scanning it with virus total. Otherwise you need to start with a sfc scan.

I have had W7 running on two desktop PCs and a laptop. All three maintained with the Simplix download. In the last few days all three have had some confusing problems. The first one: Suddenly upon startup, the icons on CCleaner, Malwarebytes, and Firefox had disappeared and replaced by a generic-looking plain rectangle. Clicking on any of these did not open the software but brought up a message box on the desktop saying somethng about a missing file path. Trying to open the software from the Start Menu "All Programs" list was equally futile. One by one, the laptop and the second PC showed the same faults. I hadn't updated any of the three for a month or two so I updated all three to the latest (January) Simplix update. Upon starting the first PC my antivirus announced it had picked up something called Upd7Live.exe and quarantined it. It took me a full day to reinstall all the affected software on the first PC and regain basic functionality of the laptop. Today I tried to get the second desktop restored by trying a restore point. It completely borked the machine. I tried to revive it by installing a new SSD for a fresh start, (with Linux Mint) but nothing appears on the monitor and there seems to be no way to get into the bootup settings.

I'm in way over my head on this. The laptop (my wife's) no longer allows her to retrieve any emails so there is a very important problem to solve and I barely understand the jargon that helpful people use.

I have posted this content on another forum and was treated like a child and told I was posting in the wrong place. If this is the case here will someone please step forward and tell me where to post it. If someone else has had similar trouble recently please let me know. If I can't get full functionality back on my machines I'm going for Linux. Hoping for reliability.

Sounds like you need to do a repair from a windows 7 disk or a repair install.

I am not using Avast. I am using Avira free.

I don't have these. I found a handful of W7 disks and ISO (?) that I used a few years ago to do the first installations. None of them did anything when I tried to get some life back into the one desktop that doesn't work at all. I can't even get into the Bios to see why it won't boot. I get the single beep when I try to start it. That is supposed to indicate the hardware is OK on my Asus motherboard.

My main desktop is 'working OK but I notice no links in Thunderbird are working, ie. the one notifying me of new posts on this forum.
