You probably heard this a million times now but i've spent all day reading forum after forum, downloading this and that and i'm at that point where i want to format, got back to xp and take win 7 back for a refund.

Installed win 7 on a clean 1 tb drive.
ran updates
installed trackball mouse
installed zboard
deleted onboard asus vid card drivers
put ati radeon 4650 in
set bios to boot priority on pcie
get to loading screen, then BSOD
reboot, can get to safe mode
win 7 auto installs a generic vid card driver, calling it 4600 series
restart with its generic driver, bsod, resart in safe mode
..at one reboot i no longer seen anything on any monitors...not to say i have them all plugged in, i had to try cables and cords until i found one that worked..

...i read to install driver then ccc seperatly, so i did in safe mode, restarted
and it worked, yay, but a balloon popped up wit a problem that needed another restart, so i did, BSOD arrgghh..

1st time i installed, i had the ati card in, all was good until a restart with the first bsod.

so i reinstalled win 7 by formating drive first, so i guess it used the onboard vid card so lo and behold the bsod loop continues. anyone got any help for me?

Disable onboard video (or vga) in the bios. If you really can't find anything like that, disable it in display adapters within the device manager.

from what i have seen there is no way to disable it in the bios.
i can set priority, but nothing more, so your suggestion then is to remove ati card, restart, win7 will install the onboard vid card again, i disable it, then shut down, insert ati card and restart yea?

Nobody really cares if you get a refund here so please don't use that as some kind of ooga booga on us.

I'd try with one monitor only first.

sorry i am frustrated, been trying to get past this problem for 2 days now total, how hard can it be to install a card!!!

I'd try with one monitor only first. --- yes my little lg204wt was in use on its own.

i want the real ooga booga here because i am at a loss at my process

1. clean drive
2. install 7
3. install mobo drivers
4. install mouse
5. install zboard.
6. disable onboard vid card in device manager
7. insert ati card.
8. turn power on, see load screen , watch pc try to run disk in dvd then bsod.
9. load into safe mode, see driver for ati say generic 4600 series
10. resart, same process as 8, rinse and repeat.

give me a better method then the above mentioned

C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy the latest few files there to another directory, then rar them to a single file.

Attach the .rar to a post and I'll analyze them to see if I can find the cause of the bsod.

In the meantime, update your chipset drivers and bios version, from the manufacturer's website.

Have extracted install folder ready at C:\ATI, from the installer .exe.

Boot into safe mode. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers

and delete atikmdag.sys.

Right click video card in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Find the .inf with C7 or CL in its name in C:\ATI somewhere. Double click it. Hit ok and let it install. Reboot after it does.

Also, check the capacitors on the card. See if they are in good condition with flat tops and no brown substances near or on them.

ok it worked, i'll hand it to ya, good fix.
on the next restart i thought, might install the ccc software.
epic fail, bsod like before.

so i decided to follow the method you gave, over n over till i get to a point where there is multiple of the same driver and updating software isn't working.

so i am doing a clean install, been church this morning, feeling faithful, i think i will
1.clean install
2.install latest ati driver (not the ccc full package) just driver package to ati folder
3.disable on board vidcard in device manager
4.shutdown
5.insert ati card, which looks good, looked it all over, capacitors etc (like u mentioned)
6.windows will detect and install its own driver
7. will del the atixxx.inf whatsit from system32
8. install software for the card like you mentioned
9. restart and see how it goes.

sound like a plan?

If it was my pc with exact same situation and where you are standing now, this is how it would be done:

1) Install Windows.
2) When at desktop, install driver normally from the .exe.
3) Hope for the best upon a reboot.
4) If bsod, follow my previous method.
5) Leave it alone then. You don't need CCC.
6) Install ATI Tray Tools and be happy.

Is this the only way? Probably not. I'm just suggesting what I'd do.

in the end i am sitting with a clean install of win 7 using the on board x1200 vid card, any attempt to install the ati radeon 4650 ends in horror, playing any games ends in graphics horror so i will let win 7 sit on that hdd and wait for all the fixes to be made and have gone back to win xp 64x until then.

unless you have any other suggestion.

i tried both our methods
yours didnt make it to the first finishing of the set up
mine still had bsods
using the method you provided ended in bsods, which is wierd since it worked first thing this morning
i did a clean reinstall and did the .net 3.5 with no prob.
install the card, let windows install its driver no prob
restart to bsod.
rinse repeat with the del .inf + hard install accepted
restart bsod
rinse repeat, this time i installed the ati driver normally, said it was success yay!
restart to bsod
so rinse repeat leaving the ati card out until there is some more fixes.

There's no deleting an .inf. I said "delete atikmdag.sys" from safe mode and then install, which you said worked for you...and then you messed it up by trying to install CCC....which still could have easily been fixed.

I'm I had your machine and card in my hands, I'd have Windows up with perfect 3d acceleration in as quick as it can install Windows and get me to desktop.

But all the same I followed that process and I still got the bsod.
If there is a fic for the ccc could you pls explan.

Better yet, put it all in 1.2.3.4.5.6.7 step for me and send me your postal address and i'll send u coffee n donuts or a slab of your fav beer or a bottle of plonk, a lap dancer anything!
