Hi,

Got an issue here at home....... another user (i.e. my brother) often likes to end my tasks at will without saying anything. I'm running Win 7 RC, and we're both administrators - is there anyway I could use group policy or the likes to stop him accessing my tasks in task manager (i.e. not able to click the 'show processor from all users)?

I wouldnt mind if it meant I couldnt check his or the SYSTEM processes, as I never do.

Otherwise I think its stupid one user can just end the others at will....

Appreciate any help, thanks!

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew! The first thing you should do is consider if your brother even needs to be an admin. If he doesn't need to be one, theres your solution.
As for the group policy, that applies to files and folders, not tasks.

Thanks,
ZeshanA

Does he need to be? Not really. But if I make him a limited user, he'll get my older brother (runs his own IT company) to make him an administrator again (even though he has no reason to be one).

Thats why I hoped I could somehow stop him ending my tasks - even if it meant I then couldn't end his.

Lock him in a closet! No just kidding, I think ZeshanA is right the only way is for you to be the only Admin.

Set yourself up as the only Admin (use a password that only you know), then give your brother (the annoying one) a Guest Account (without Admin control), and assign him a password. Now with you as the only Admin (password protected) even your IT brother cannot get into the system unless you foolishly give him your password. :)

Tell your older brother what is going on (about the task ending) and have him make you the sole administrator if your younger brother will not stop.

Abusing privilege is a reason to restrict privileges.

Guys thanks for the advice... my thinking was even if I did make myself the only admin, there would still be a way of erasing the admin password (i.e. mine) - i remember actually doing this on a vista machine some time ago. How could I stop that from happening?

ps - closet idea might be the best solution all round :P
