Modern Warfare 2 and Windows 7

Hello everyone. This is my first post, as i registered right as i found out about this website.

I was sitting here today, thinking about pre-ordering the CoD4 Modern Warfare 2, when it suddently came to my mind that the original Cod4 wasn't competable for Windows 7. So i thought that maybe the new game wouldn't work either.

Should i take the chance to spend the 60$ on it? Will this new game work for Windows 7?

The more important question is whether you want to spend $60 on basically a single-player game as there will be no dedicated servers for multiplayer.

Why not wait for the masses to buy and say something about the game? At any rate, CoD 4 was made prior to Windows 7. Modern Warfare 2 is very recent and could take advantage of Win 7.

I never had a problem playing CoD4 with Win 7... even on RC Build 7100 x64 Ultimate

Berserker gets the major Gold Star here. Im going to wait a long time until we see if get get dedicated server support. Why buy a PC game for online play if you cant host your own settings when you want to.

Ding, Ding, Winner!

Activision and Infinity Ward are screwing PC users with this title - basically selling us a glorified console game with mouse support...and charging us more than we have ever paid before.

No dedicated servers not only means higher latency for folks who aren't the host, it also means:

1) No more community for thousands of clans. My Clan has had our own servers for nearly a decade and that is where we play. We have over 150 members (in half a dozen countries) and hundreds of regulars. We all know where we can go to play together - on our own servers...but not with MW2. There are no server lists...and certainly no support for you hosting a dedicated 24x7 server.

2) No more control over cheaters. We can no longer admin/rcon with MW2. Have an obvious cheater that the anti-cheat system doesn't detect? (which is pretty much always the case) Tough. Someone under the map or exploiting a glitch? Too bad. Someone bought cheats/hacks from one of the many groups that sells cheats undetectable by server monitoring software? So what...we have your 60 bucks...and if you don't like a game full of cheaters, move on and give us 60 more bucks for our next title.

3) No more control over idiots. Have standards where you don't allow profanity, abuse, or harassment on your servers? Tough. In my Clan, we ask such folks to behave, but we also have the right to remove them if they will not. Welcome to the new world...which is a day care center full of 12 year-olds shouting profanity, team shooting, team bashing, intentionally blocking doors, etc. In fact, the IW.Net algorithm will most likely continue to put you in game with them if they live near you.

4) No more mods and no more custom maps...unless IW provides them. Mods and custom maps are the lifeblood of games with staying power. It's why my clan still has active COD2 servers...and why they are full. Forget it here. They don't want longevity...just a quick hit of sales...and then push you to the next title.

5) No more console config for non-cheat params. Have an oddly shaped monitor and want to adjust FOV? Guess what? IW says p** up a rope.

6) Like to lean? Forget it. Let's go lowest common denominator and remove a capability that has been in pretty much every FPS for a decade...including all CoD titles.

7) Like fluid gameplay? Well sure...oh, unless the "host" player has a blip on their ISP...and then we are all screwed...just as we are when they disconnect and IW.Net has to stop the game, determine who should host next, and then move the server to that player. Having fun in that firefight? No worries...play will resume in five or ten seconds. Please just hang in the middle of your mid-air jump until then. Also, let's see how ISPs like this one. Many have prohibitions against hosting game servers on your account. I never have before, because we outsource our hosting to gameservers.com. Not any more. Sorry verizon.

We need to take a stand. Others are watching. Even John Carmack, father of Quake/Id, is saying that he is waiting to see what happens...and may do the same with Rage.

Vote with your wallets. Bad Company 2 is coming soon...and it WILL support dedicated servers. Play COD4 and WaW a little longer (as well as the new BF2 mod) and wait for BC2.

to give another view, i recently started to play cod4 on pc after playing on 360 and man is it hard everyone has custom this and custom that really hard for a noob like me. I'm buying MW2 today for PC as i prefer mouse & keyboard and am quite glad it's setup like xbox live - feels more like a level playing field. I can understand the anger over it all but there is some positives

See to me starting late is not a problem, in the real world everyone is not equal so with people have custom items makes it more realistic and challenging. Also I change things up by just tossing my weapon and grapping another when in a fire fight that always fun when someone thinks your out of bullets in one gun and just pick up another and open fire. The Xbox live setup might be good for the first few weeks then the hackers and cheats will show up and kill the fun of the game.

I bought CODMW2 last night, it's junk so far. The graphics are so screwed up that I can't even read the title screens. I managed to push enough buttons to play the training mission to unlock the game.

Gee I pay $60 for a game and have to do something to unlock it. You figure $60 is enough to not unlock the game...lol

Oh and no Steam, no single player. You have to install Steam to install the game.

Right now I'm looking for a fix for the graphics problem. As I've seen on their message board I'm not the only one with this issue.

WOW, so what you are saying is that Infinity Ward is taking after UBIsoft and all it did was make a poorly optimized console port for PC?

If that is so... that's another 60 bucks I'll save myself.

The problem now is that I was so hoping to play a decent game after the fiasco with Operation Flashpoint-DR

Oh well... time to trade the PC for a Wii :)

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. Steam is the bomb, and I never buy games that aren't on there. Even if you don't like it--big deal, it's a whole 2 minute process to install.

PC Gamers always get railed--you have to face facts: Consoles drive the market.

No dedicated servers seems pretty silly, though. But I must say I hate it when I end up on servers that modify the game so much it's unrecognizable. I'm sure they dropped dedicated server support for a reason. Give it time.

You can choose not to spend $60 on what you know is a great game--that's your choice. And you know deep down that even if it is ported from the consoles, it's still gonna be better on the PC. That's just a fact.

Right now, Steam will not even start for me.

Guess what? I dont really care. I dont like how it works.
I like the concept, but the implementation SUCKS.

Also, no dedicated servers means that the chance of finding an active game with open spots will be next to impossible.
Even if you do, then the quality of the server will show through. It just will not be worth it.

Imagine playing this game on your computer. Lets say it can run the game fairly well. Now, you want a good multiplayer game, but none are open/up so you decide to host your own (Providing your ISP allows you to!). Ok, so far so good. Next a few more people start to connect in. Cool, other people! Next thing you know, your ping skyrockets (and theirs) to around 500 and things get jumpy. Your computer can barely keep up. Then 4 more players join, and it either reduces gameplay to screenshot browsing, or you crash.
Even should you succeed, lets say one of the players is some 12 year old kid, screaming with a high pitched nasal voice and constantly cussing and screaming at you all about how gay you are and what naughty things you do to your mom at night (I have heard this.....). Well too bad, either you put up with him or you quit the game, because he wont leave unless he wants to.

That sound like a great game?

Ha ha ha, it sounds terrible, but I love your description.

In all honesty, I don't play the Call of Duty games for multiplayer--I play for the single player campaigns. Although this spec ops mode is pretty sweet. My biggest complaint so far: It appears that there is no buddy chat in spec ops (crazy, I know), and you have to use Steam voice chat (!!!) to talk to your partner.

It kinda sounds like the game is unfinished...maybe they rushed it out there to meet deadlines?

The single player is completely badass, though.

Certainly it plays better on win 7 than XP but I've had a couple of freezes in half hours play.
More setting to play with but I am also running on 1920x1200. I found Modern warfare 1 was not so good on Win 7 so MW2 is definitely coded for 7.
More playing with it tonight so will update.
