Dell 922 (All In One) not compatible with Win 7, help!

I had windows vista 32 bit and used my dell aio922 printer with R151371.exe from dell.
When i upgraded to windows 7 i used the same windows vista compat. software from dell, but i i got an error printer cannot communicate with computer when attempting to print something? I even removed the printer from device driver and reinstalled with windows vista sp2 compatability turned ON. Does anyone have a solution for this problem or know if there is a solution?
I even tried using windows update but it got hung and never came back.

Same problem I'm having but my printer is the "Dell All in one A960". Prints fine but no way to print accross the network, however when I restart the machine that I'm network printing from the printer then picks up the print job from Que and prints it. I even got the peer to peer to work but still it would not print accross the network.

I wonder if there is a seperate patch for my A960...

I used the printer clean up utility as you suggested, did reboot and reran r15137.exe and still i get printer cannot communicate with pc turn on bi directional communication in printer properties. But i did that and when i come back and check if its still configured, its not!? i cant understand why i make the configuration settings and it wont hold?

Ok, i went into printer properties and found i had to select another port. I need more than one port to be able to have bidirectional communication. I have that now but the printer is still not talking to the pc? Any ideas now?

When you restarted after running the cleanup utility did you make sure to disconnect the internet to prevent Win7 from downloading and installing its own drivers?

Ok, i did the clean up and install twice and i finally got it to work. The weird thing was i let windows update do it and i didnt use the dell software but the darn things worked. I thought it wouldnt but it did?

In my last few posts i fixed my computer with windows 7 32 bit and my aio 922 printer works. But i didnt mention that i have a new laptop that came with windows vista 64 bit OS. I would like to be able to use my Dell 922 printer as well but i noticed there is only a windows vista 32 bit driver and windows XP all. I tried all of them and none worked? Anyone have any ideas if i can still use this printer with my new laptop?

Did you try this one? To be safe, disconnect the internet after you download the driver. Make sure that the printer is not already listed in the control panel, and repeat the process that you did for the 32 bit Win7. Post back with your results.

Installing Dell 922 printer for Windows 7 32/64 bit OS

Here is what i did to install drivers for windows 7 32/64 bit OS's

Windows 7 32 bit OS
1 - Go to dell website for dell 922 printer driver downloads ->
Drivers & Downloads

2 - Select options for windows vista 32 bit and download the patch/upgrade utility. This is the dell printer reset utility. Run this utility and reboot pc. The file should be R166239.zip

3 - Download the optional dell printer driver file 151371.zip, release date 3/15/07.
Disconnect pc from internet and unzip files. Before you run setup select the setup file and use right mouse to select properties and check the compatibility tab. Check the box that says: Run this in compatibility mode for... Then select the drop down arrow to select choices for your operating system.

Choose Windows Vista and the correct service pack you had prior to the windows 7 setup. In my case i picked windows vista service pack 2, then run setup.
When the driver asks you to turn on printer and hook up usb cable do that. When you get to the menu for printing the alignment page do so to show the printer will print and communicate with the pc. If you dont want to print a page but you want to know if the driver worked continue to print alignment page but press cancel as the printer starts to print the page.

Did you make sure that you downloaded the driver, uninstalled the printer drivers that Win 7 installed by default, disconnected the internet, restarted, and installed the downloaded driver?

Yes, I uninstalled the printer drivers using the patch from Dell and restarted my pc. Then I disconnected the internet and installed the windows vista 64 bit driver (in Windows Vista compatibility mode and as administrator). But printing still doesn't work ...

If you're running the 32 bit version of Windows 7, try the Vista drivers, available from support.dell.com.

Drivers & Downloads

You may have to use some work-arounds to get them toinstall on Win7, but I expect that they'll work.

There are also drivers on Windows Update that claim to support Win7.

Thanks for the tip. I found a compatible driver here. However, I still am looking for some software to use for scanning. The Dell CD had the Dell All In One center, but that doesn't seem to work in Win 7.

Anyone have any third party scanning software that would work with my Dell AIO 922?

Scanning is built into 7 and should work fine if the scanner drive installed.

Just click the red/green/blue/yellow windows start icon in the lower left hand corner of the windows then a window should pop up and where you see, "search programs and files" type in scan, then you should see, programs(1) windows fax and scan. Use that. Click on it to launch it and then when you see the program icon in the lower task bar, right click and click on, "pin this program to the task bar". You can now close the windows fax and scan. Now everytime you want to scan or fax you can use this icon to launch the program. You might notice that windows 7 hides some programs from view so you have to search for them.

I have Windows 7 64 bit, so I used the 64 bit driver for Windows Vista (Drivers and Downloads). I also tried the 32 bit driver, but then I cannot print nor scan.
