Want to install Windows 7 on second drive....How?

I am currently on Vista which is on C: drive, and I want to install Windows 7 on F: drive.

How can I do that?

Also how will I select which Windows I want to log on to?

Thanks.

During the install process, you will be given the option of which drive to install to... Windows7 will then create the boot manager so you can select which OS to boot....

Disconnect all drives, except the one that you want to install W7 on, and reconnect them after the installation. Doing this, you won't have the regular boot menu, but you choose which drive to boot from in the BIOS's boot priority, or selecting F8 to get a boot menu.

Disconnect all drives, except the one that you want to install W7 on, and reconnect them after the installation. Doing this, you won't have the regular boot menu, but you choose which drive to boot from in the BIOS's boot priority, or selecting F8 to get a boot menu.

This method makes it easier to just unplug Vista later when you want to remove it, although it is only easy to get into if you have a BIOS boot order shortcut key (usually F10 or F12).

The other method - creating a dual boot menu when both drives are plugged during Win7 installation - makes it a bit harder to remove Vista later, however we can help you do it here when the times comes.

I assume that what you call a BIOS boot order shortcut key is what my Asus MB call the BBS Popup Menu (F8). I really don't know, but I would have thought that any system that had multiple drive capability would have some kind of shortcut key.

Actually, I rarely use the shortcut key, because I don't switch OSs all that often, and find it easier to just change the Boot Priority in the BIOS settings.

EDIT: The main reason that I use this method is not so much for simplicity, it's because I don't trust boot loaders. Too often, the boot loader would become corrupt, and I would lose access to all of my OS at the same time.

seeker: the Win7 boot menu when configured properly is perfectly stable, a quantum improvement on XP/Vista dual boots.

But using BIOS boot order is still a better idea since we are seeing new 7 users bail out of dual boots in hours or days, rather than weeks or months as with beta users.
