can someone shed some light on this peculiar situation? i'm trying to delete a folder, but windows has decided to be obstinate and is preventing me from doing so

Is it still in use? Make sure everything that has to do with foobar is closed/stopped.

i tried unpacking the foobar installer to this folder. now it's empty but for one file - a zero-byte empty file with a blank name and no extension.

i tried killbox with no luck...

unlocker doesn't help either. and yes i've rebooted. this folder has persisted for about a week

maybe i'll just pretend it's not there until the next time i format this partition...

Why don't you reinstall foobar and uninstall it with something like Revo Uninstaller on the advanced tab, see if it takes it away.

Airbot - Revo won't do anything unfortunately. like i said, i just unpacked the foobar installer to this folder (using Universal Extractor). then i deleted everything, and only that empty file is left. i do have foobar elsewhere on my system, but it's the 'portable' install, so there is no uninstaller.

Encountered this issue several times. If after a few reboots wont solve to delete it, I rename the folder on a fresh reboot then delete

I encountered as well when trying to edit the ID3 info for a .mp3. Any solution?

reboot and come up in safe mode, delete it from there. as mentioned, try renaming and attempt delete from there if a straight delete does not work. something is hanging onto the folder.

But I don't want to delete it. Just edit the tags. I'm just trying to have my songs in order for my mp3 player, but I can't edit the ID3 tags so that they can be in order.

Have you tried deleting that 0-byte file first, and then deleting the folder?

might be worth running sfc /scannow in cmd prompt to see if it can fix any errors on your account.

Try this:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Navigate INTO the folder you are trying to delete
3. Make sure that no file icons are selected
4. Hold down the <SHIFT> key, then right-click an area of the folder view that does not contain any icons
5. In the popup menu, select the "Open Command Window Here" item
6. In the command window, type "ATTRIB -R -H -S -A *.*" (without quotes) then press <ENTER>
7. When the ATTRIB command is done, type "ERASE *.*" (without quotes), then press <ENTER>
8. When ERASE is done, type "EXIT" (without quotes) then press <ENTER> t close the command window
9. Try to delete the folder again.

In the above, if you get any messages, note them and post back with the results.

If you still can't delete the folder, I have some other options for you to try, but I'll need the FULL path name of the folder you are trying to delete (right click the Windows Explorer address bar, then select "Copy Address As Text")

This happens to me a few times with Vista also. Renaming and then deleting are the best options.

There was this one iso file i had opened with magicdisc. Unmounted the file, couldn't delete. Stopped magicdisc, no go. Rebooted, no go. Renamed and it deleted.

It must be a filehandle floating around in the big void.

Also i noticed that sometimes you have to pull the plug and reboot as memory doesn't get wiped on softboot and it can happen the memoryaddress still contains the original info.

hi there, i am having the same error while creating a file in system partition(c. i have administrator privileges and i am the owner of the partition with no use. i also tried rebooting. and i didnt do anything wrong. everything was fine. i had dinner and when i came back voila windows has a surprise for me. any ideas ???

A possible answer is to start and set the Application Experience service to its default Automatic. Hopefully this will alleviate all problems of this sort. This definitely fixes the deleting and reappearing issue though.

With Admin priviledges, open a command prompt, then type
rd foobar /s /q

this is supposed to remove all files and folders in foobar, including foobar itself, without asking if it is ok.
