unidentified network ??

I just spent an entire day figuring this issue out.
Nothing solved it for me.
I have a dual LAN on my computer and two computers with Win7.
One Lan card is for internet and the other is for connecting via ethernet cable with the second computer. I can share internet and files with the two but I can't make the remote computer to join the Home group since it is connected to the unidentified network LAN card on my host computer.

How can I change the unidentified network to Home? sine it is actually home!

I configured static IP in order to share the internet and enabled the ICS.

I sus[ect the net work is showing up as un-identified because there may be a driver problem. can you type device manager in search>go to the network tab and see if your card is there and doesn't have a yellow triagle on it. If it either is missing or havs a yellow triangle the driver needs to be installed. Also while you ae there you should see if there are any 'unknown devices' with yellow on them

I don't have yellow triangle and the drivers on both computers are updated to the latest.

I don't think the unidentified network is relating to driver. Probably more technical than i can explain, but i found when you get it, it's usually becos w7 wasn't able to identify it as an actual network connection. This might imply having all IPs identifyable, eg DNS, Default Gateway etc. and you won't get these all the time depending on your network setup.

Anyway, i found bridging connections usually get rid of this issue. Have you tried this?

I wouldn't mind using bridge connection but this will disable the ability to share internet connection with my 2nd computer.

Any other thoughts?

You said LAN A has internet access and is shared with LAN B. So PC1 and PC2 are both internet accessible. Iv you bridge both LANs you wiill not loose internet sharing, that's what bridging does, share.

Nb: First try setting PC1 as auto detect IP.

As long as ICS is enabled, I can't bridge. After disabling ICS I can bridge but then PC2 looses internet access and only has network access.

I'll illustrate my connection:

Internet<---->Cable Modem<--->PC1<----Crossed Ethernet cable---->PC2
------------------Home Network -- Unidentified Network---------- Home Network

PC1: Has Internet and network Sharing in Home Network and LAN in Unidentified Network
