Before read sorry for the english,

Hi .I just got my Windows 7 pro 64bit today and before i installed it i searched on the net if there any problem with the p5QL PRO MotherBoard,(Bios Version) anyway

right now my bios version/date 0902, 28/11/2008.

i never updates a bios before i dont want to blow up my motherboard either lol

i looked on support.asus and i found updates, version 1001 or higher 1004

but i dont want to upgrades it if i dont need too , anyones know if i realy need to upgrades it to support win 7

cause i saw many thread here talking about win 7 64bit that dont work well with 9800GT
i dunno if the driver are the cause or the motherboard itself,

For my Asus motherboard - The Windows7 CD and /or Windows update installed the correct drivers and settings for my motherboard. However a newer bios update from asus may be suggested for yours. But if your computer is working well, then probablly you already have what you need. These guys here should be able to tell you if a bios update is suggested for your board.

I just used that motherboard on 1 of the last machines I built, Win7 installed fine and had no issues with drivers. I don't remember what vid card I used, but it was nvidia.
I wouldn't update the bios unless you have some problems

I agree with not upgrading unless you are having problems, but keep in mind that you may run into a problem that a newer version of the BIOS could've fixed.

On one of my sister's desktops the BIOS she had was faulty and ended up killing the motherboard, she never updated her BIOS and there was a version that fixed the issue that killed her desktop.

Something to think about. ;)

Most BIOS updates will tell you what they are improving. For example, if I want to boot from USB but can't and the BIOS update says it will enable USB booting, I will use it. But if it doesn't and the improvements offered don't cover what I need, I avoid doing it.

Do others rely on the fixes listed in BIOS update? Is this enough? Also, is it true that they have to be done in order, and how is one certain of this?

In order? I was lead to believe BIOS updates just replaced the old one, not updated it. Maybe its different for HP's :p

I went from JFL92 1.6 -> JFL92 1.8 with no issue (COMPAL PHOENIX BIOS)...

Could be different with other manufacturers

Good sound advice from everyone, Bios updates can be risky and there are a lot of things to be put in place before proceding (such as disabling AV, making sure your power supply is stable, reset your bios to default, removing all devices etc.)
The reality is i would only update (flash) the bios as a last resort and it addressed the problem i was having and i could not correct it any other way
If you ever decide you need to update your Bios Please spend some time doing google research so you can make an informed decission & Execute the procedure safely

Another thing to add to everyones comments.

If you DO decide to update, rather then googling first, try checking the forum of your manufacture or the maker of your motherboard, see if anyones reported problems with that particular update.

Also those of us with Asus boards updating the bios is simple with the built in Asus update program. I'm also a firm believer in checking the bios release notes to see if their is a specific fix for an issue you have or in my case support for my quad core cpu. Cause if it ain't broke don't fix it! Fabe
