Need your help, guys!

I installed MagicISO on my HP Pavillion dv6812nr laptop which is running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. But it gave me a compatibility error everytime I try to run it.

But after I uninstalled MagicISO my real DVD Drive vanished! I could not find it in my Device Manager anymore. I try to insert any kind of disc, it would not read it.

I've tried running the Troubleshooter in Win7 but it didn't help.

i just tried your advice, unfortunately i can't find the date when i installed magicISO... kinda hesitant to do a full system restore (meaning going back from older dates). will it erase my files (music, docs, vids, etc.) if i do it on an older date?

No... it will not effect your documents... and remember that you always have the option of undoing a system restore...

A lot of times if you turn off PC and unplug drive, turn on the PC, then turn it back off and plug it back in. When you restart it it fixes it.

You could also try deleting the upper and lower filters for the drive in the registry (make sure you backup your registry before altering it).
I think the filters are in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

those were the first troubleshooting steps that i did, slithernet. but they didn't work. I didn't have lower or upper filters in my registry.

hm...downloading an ISO of the RTM and extracting the files to perform the repair install is a way...

Reinstalling the entire OS from scratch is another (probably not desired)

Did you try Safe Mode? If you can "see" the DVD in Safe mode, then its a corrupted driver issue, and a simple driver download will fix it.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION, GUYS!!!

I checked out other sites, and I saw one, these were the steps that I had to do:

  1. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Right click Command Prompt > Run as administrator.
  2. Paste the following line into the Command Prompt window and hit Enter

    bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
  3. Restart the computer.
After I restarted, I checked on Computer... and VIOLA! My DVD drive is back!

It might be fixed but this has me a bit worried...

That flag is in check to detect that the hardware is alright at boot (I believe)...this is a safeguard and I still recommend that you backup and do a clean install

I haven't used it a great deal, but I've had no trouble with MagicISO 5.5 build 274 under Win7 X64.

(I haven't tried the slightly newer build 276.)

i'm not sure of it's compatibility. but i did use the older version of MagicISO (the one that was for Vista), which may have caused the issue.

it's always better to be safe then sorry. so i'll probably not use MagicISO for awhile. (that's just me)

I've got MagicIso installed - no problem here.

The separate virtual drive I don't use.

It seems to interfere with my other virtual drives.
