I have read the sticky and find that it's too complicated for people like myself who aren't too clever when it comes to computers. I would appreciate any help I could get to resolve this issue.

When i play games I sometimes get the Blue Screen and my computer restarts automatically. The odd thing is, this doesn't happen constantly... sometimes it will happen within 15 minutes of playing or sometimes it won't happen all day.

I have tried memory tests and even the windows memory diagnostic tool and it reported no errors... I'm really hoping this is a driver issue rather than hardware.

I should note, this never happened when i was using Windows XP.

Anyway, i have a dmp file from my previous crash, hope it helps.

Do you have Steam installed, perhaps? Follow advice if so.

Steam is your cause here. Update or remove.

I have read that thread and i don't think he's having the same problem as me... For him it's just a hl2.exe crash where as my problem is a full on Blue Screen followed by automatic restart?

Quite a few people use Steam on Windows7 and they don't have Blue Screen crashes?

Quite a few people have crashes running Steam. If you want the problem fixed, remove it. If you like blue screens, leave it.

Of course I could be wrong. You really should follow the advice though and test.

that's not really a solution though... there are tonnes of people out there using steam on Windows 7 and they don't experience the blue screen. Why should i delete steam because of blue screens when there's most likely a solution out there?

There is an engineering term called "testing" that is very valuable in troubleshooting issues.

If pc=good without Steam, then Steam is the issue.

If pc=bad without Steam, then Steam is not the issue.

Well i've done some testing and it happened again in a game that wasn't run via Steam. So I'm assuming Steam isn't the problem? I have some information for ya that might be useful.

I have x4 1gb sticks in my computer at the moment (DDR2-1066) all run in dual channel. Originally my computer came with x2 1gb sticks so i ordered an extra x2 1gb recently and put them together.

My computer will sometimes run a game for 5 minutes and blue screen but sometimes it will run a whole day without blue screening.

All 4 of my sticks have the same specs.. they are from the same company, same frequency, same size, etc etc.. the only difference is on my new sticks it says "2.10v ver4.3" where as on my old ones they say "2.20v ver1.2"

IIRC it's best to use ram that's from the same company and has the exact same specs, especially for dual channel... everything is the same except for those 2 that i mentioned above.

Could this be the reason? mixing different voltage types and "versions" is causing some sort of compatibility issues? Because when i remove my new sticks the computer runs fine with no blue screens.. then when i remove my old ones and leave only my new ones in there, nothing bad happens... it's only when i put all 4 together that it starts blue screening.

Also, i have done a number of memory tests on each stick (overnights) and they don't appear faulty. I have also tried underclocking and even changing the dram voltage in my bios but still no luck.

Thoughts? could i be right about the voltage/version thing?

Hey.

Try looking for something like memory remapping in the bios and set it to on or yes.

I don't think mixing the ram should give problems although it's possible. If they're the same votage and timings, then that's especially true (I suppose.)

Some motherboards have to be matched in pairs....meaning 1&3 slots for one kind, 2&4 for other brand (with respect that they're both of the same type DDR, DDR2, DDR3 etc..)

Maybe a bios update would help with the situation. That's always good.

back again lol.

I found this in the Event Viewer.. mind you i switched to xp64 for 3-4 days and i never got BSOD.. i decided to give w7 another shot and i bsod again while gaming.

That "Critical" error happened at the exact same time as the bsod, as shown in my event viewer... thoughts? i read some posts on this forum about blown capacitor's but i have a feeling this isn't the case? because if they were blown wouldn't i get bsod in xp also?

Hi again.

Ya...if you post a new crash dump, there might be more information to go on.

It still could be faulty capacitors because Win 7 might drive the motherboard in different ways. I do think this is unlikely though. But possible.

Error code 41 generally is a hardware error but like I said, a new crash dump may help.

Was running a Steam game again but i dunno, I tested without Steam and still got bsod in the past. It never happens when i'm on the desktop just browsing.. only when i start gaming for a while.

All the drivers look alright, besides this one. Try to find an update to 2009 for it and install:

It's my guess that something in the bios is not right

i.e. Overclocking, even if unintentional

or RAM Vdimm (RAM voltage) and timings incorrect for specific modules. Visit maker of RAM's page and find exact settings for your specific RAM. Adjuct bios accordingly. Use spd tab of CPU-Z to find out which RAM you have.

But ya, start with that driver.

Hmm, i can't find the updated 2009 drivers for the ASACPI, i'm using an Asus p5k PRO motherboard. Been searching on google for 1-2 hours.

Then just disable it in the device manager.

You might have to set device manager to show hidden devices first and look in system devices then. (View | show hidden devices.)

Look at the driver details to find which one it is.
