DVD drive not reading disks

Hi all (again),

I'm asking for your help since my DVD drive doesn't read any kind of disks I insert. The drive is correctly recognized in both Device Manager and Disk Managerand I'm sure the IDE and power cables are connected correctly.
Already tried the delete upper/lower filters thingy in regedit but with no success.
I'm also sure the drive works since it can boot from W7 dvd (Windows loads files but takes AGES to start instalation) and from any other bootable disk.
The firmware is the latest from the manufacturer...

I have that exact drive.
You are booting up and it is in BIOS and in Prog Man, correct? Yet it is not reading any disk at all? Even a NEW one? By that I mean one which has never been inside your ROM...like a Factory DVD/CD (one containing software not an unburned one)

That's right, it can read bootable cd/dvd's (while still in BIOS, before Windows starts) but once W7 starts, it stops reading any content (original music cd's, software cd/dvd and blank cd/dvd's)...

If it's not a firmware issue, and it's correctly jumpered, is it on a dedicated cable as master - some drives require this to function correctly. There were a few other posts about the same manufacturers DVD drives failing to work - might be a question of a future service pack fix...

Can you look in your bios and check your drive configuration - have you AHCI enabled - anyhow with intel you can sometimes get a dvd drive not working properly if you don't install the matrix driver after installation - its a storage controller that allows enhanced sata - I'v e been to your motherboards site which is different of course but supports AHCI - you can totally disregard this if it isnt enabled in the bios - if you have something like - sata as IDE, you wont need an updated driver along that line, however, at the site there is a chipset/sata raid driver and if you haven't AHCI you might be able to use it to just update your chipset drivers (after unzipping package and locating them) - hopefully - you could also update your bios to the latest version also.

*Dont change your drive configuration in the bios, as you may not be able to boot to W7 - if you do - you need to reinstall the OS after changing settings in the bios.

I f you have AHCI enabled you may be able to update the driver for it in the above package, Im not sure - the only other choice i can see if the F6 method driver at installation - with intel W7 automatically installs the driver during install but requires the matrix driver after installation for proper functionality - if you have AHCI which I doubt in any case - W7 must of installed a driver for it (unless you used the F6 method) which may need updating - complicated but less complicated if it isnt enabled.

You could also do this - go into diskmanagement - control panel - administrative tools - computer management - diskmanagement - under actions - rescan disks, also check to see if it is assigning a drive letter to the dvd drive - if not right click, and select change drive letters and paths.

Hi, sorry for the delay,

The motherboard driver is updated and AHCI is disabled in BIOS (IDE is choosed). If I choose AHCI W7 won't load.
You're saying that if I install that chipset/sata raid driver maybe the driver will work?

No the IDE setting wouldnt be causing the problem - you might not get the best performance with the older drive, also the AHCI provides hotswappng support.
Unless you plan an external drive you want to hot swap I wouldnt worry about it.

Havent got anymore brain storms unfortunately - hang on have you got it connected in a master slave arrangement with the SEAGATE 150GB IDE DRIVE - if its connected that way you need the dvd drive as the slave, ie to say it connects to the IDE drive firstly then branches off to the dvd drive - this will cause problems if you have the DVD drive as master - but that's unlikely - im sort of out of ideas - do a search in the forums here you might be lucky and find an answer.

If its a sata dvd drive its just connected to one of the sata ports, so that wouldnt be the problem if its connected that way.

good day! I have some thought on this.. I'm using a 600watts power suppy, Generic. Before my whole PC was working great..until I connected one 120mm LED fan to my casing..then suddenly my DVD-ROM won't read any CD's. I've tried reconnecting the wires then the DVD suddenly read CD only but takes time to read.. it seem that it only runs on 1x speed or maybe 2x. when I've tried to disconnect my Side Casing Fans, It started reading CD's and DVd's again..well now I'm planning to buy a True-Rated PSU. I have 2HD, 1Drive Bay, 5Fans, (1 with LED) and 2front LEDS.
