If you have the win7 installation disk, just throw it in and install. It may happen that it does not find all the drivers for your hardware if that is really old. Then you may have to scout for them or try with Vista drivers - if available.
I have seen several people that successfully installed win7 on really old system. So there is a good chance it will work.
Yeah, that may be a problem. Without the proper drivers (especially for the HDD), you are going nowhere. You can check the component manufacturers sites whether they have win7 drivers, but I doubt it.

Whoa. Packard Bell? I didn't know that name had survived into the XP days. My 286sx and 386dx were both packard bell machines. But that was, like, 20 years ago. Actually, I think my 486 was a Packard Bell, too.
