Okay so here is my short story! I recently bought an Asus G51Vx a couple of months ago which included the Windows 7 upgrade. I submitted my upgrade application right after I bought the PC. It was released on the 22nd and I barely got it.

Okay now here is where the problem comes in. I pop the CD in my CD drive and wait... and wait.. and wait. I take the CD out and put it back in NOTHING! So I restart my computer and try it again NOTHING! I changed my bios to boot up on CD.. NOTHING! I put another CD in the drive it works... hmm.. What am I doing WRONG?

I already checked my drivers and they are up to date. I am running on Windows Vista x64 Home Premium on an Asus G51Vx.

Did they send 64 bit DVD? If not try booting from it and doing a clean install over Vista.

Asus is required by MS to provide tech support on these Upgrades, so I suggest you call them to troubleshoot the DVD problem which could be anything.

Acer sent 7 upgrades as two disks, one of which is a clean copy of Windows 7 with a product key attached. I booted the Win7 upgrade disk, wiped the Vista off, formatted and got the cleanest possible installation, not even needing any drivers off their other disk and only wanting one app (Works).

Yeah it is 64 bit. In fact I just found a paper that I didn't notice before but it says "before upgrading your system to windows 7 download the ODD firmware and firmware upgrade guide in the following address: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-"

Which one do I DL?

Check the Device Manager to find the exact make and model of your Optical Drive, then download it from that Firmware list given. The matching manual should be in there somewhere, too, so you can get the steps right.

Your model also has all of its apps and drivers on another product download page searchable by model, so if you can get the DVD drive upgraded and can boot and install Win7 clean, you have access to everything you need there. Win7 has most all drivers.

You have a nice, costly rig that should def be tech supported by Asus.

Walking you through this firmware upgrade and even the Win7 Upgrade is included in what you paid for the notebook, for the next year.

You paid for it, so use it!

I think problem is solved. I had one of my friends on teamviewer help me.

For future references anyone that has this problem search for the Panasonic UJ880A ODD Firmware

Some dipstick labeled it wrong on Asus site. On my PC it says MAT****A UJ880AS.
