7100 - Can't detect any wireless networks

Hey everyone, just installed Windows 7 7100 a couple days ago (first time using 7), and although my ethernet connection works flawlessly, my wireless card cannot detect any networks (won't show any available, and can't connect manually either). It is installed, recognized, and the drivers are updated (by Windows). It is a D-Link DWA-552 N adapter. My router is an Apple Airport Extreme. I don't think it has anything to do with placement because I can connect to my wireless network with my laptop which is right beside my PC.

It might be the card, so I did a little searching around and it seems at least one other person got it working with 7 (although an earlier version) (Dlink DWA-552 under Windows 7 - 64-bit - Vista Forums).

I have had good luck going to the DLink website and downloading the latest Vista drivers, then run the install process in Vista compatibility mode. I have found some W7 default drivers are a bit lacking.

I am still getting "No connections are available" when I have just the wireless adapter enabled. I tried installing the setup program using the Vista SP2/Vista SP1/Vista compatibility modes, but still can't see any networks. Afterwards in the Properties tab of the adapter I tried updating to the latest drivers automatically, and there is now a "Wireless Network Connection 2" and the adapter is "Microsoft Virtual WiFI Miniport Adapter". Still can't see any networks though.

So in both cases (downloading from the DLink website or letting W7 install automatically), no luck.

Any other suggestions?

I got it working! What I did was restart the WLAN AutoConfig service. Then right after I could see a bunch of networks and connect to my own.

This is using the latest drivers Windows provides.

Anyway thanks for the input screwballl.

Hopefully this helps if others run into the same problem.

Well now I've got this problem!! Darn you Microsoft!
I have the RC 1 7100 Build
and it REFUSES Outright Blatantly REFUSES to detect ANY Wireless networks
and Before it gets asked
No, it's working fine. The beta ran it like it was a natural thing
No, my computer is fine as well the Adapter works fine under WinXP SP2 (dual-boot)
No, I cannot Unhook the Wireless and go wired I only have a Wireless adapter.

I'm using a LinkSys WRK54G to ATTEMPT to connect to the internet using Win7 7100 Build RC1
But it won't see it and I don't know WHAT to do to tell it to see it.
As said before the Beta ran stuff like it was second nature Now Win7 has a Vista Mask on and its scaring me off lol

I have the exact same problem that you mentioned here. Mine however is a bit worse, I can't get the DWA-552 adapter to work period. It doesn't detect any networks despite restarting the WLAN autoconfig service.
Did you manage to find a solution?

Downloaded the latest drivers from D-Link (1.60) but it does nothing.
D-Link technical support are useless. I'm starting to think that I basically threw my money away on this adapter.

Thoughts?

Operating on Windows 7 64 bit with an EVGA 780i SLI motherboard .

Dowload the zip file from D-Link that contains the driver, just unzip it do
not run the setup program. If you installed the D-Link Network Manager
before, uninstall it from the control panel. After all of this is done, go
to the Device Manager, select your DWA-522, right click and select update
drivers. Select that you want to udpdate drivers manually and point it to
the drivers in the unzipped folder. Then let Windows Manage the Wireless
Connection

I tried that already and it didn't work.
Do you happen to know if there might be jumper settings on the motherboard that need to be manually enabled in order for PCI to work properly? Maybe the PCI is the issue.

Hey clift and others,

I think my previous solution was just a fluke and it worked just by chance, because now I'm using the released version of 7 64bit and it's still not working (actually it did work when I first installed 7, but then stopped like a day later). The weird thing is that it did work sometimes, after disabling and enabling the card itself and screwing around with other stuff (mentioned above). But it may have worked for other reasons unrelated to whatever I did. I just ended up using something else and sort of stopped searching for a solution. I'm too am afraid I may have wasted money on this adapter.

However if I do ever find a solution I'll be sure to post it here. Please do the same if you guys find one.

Can't detect any networks - SOLVED

I have the D-Link DWA 160 network usb adapter. I installed Win7 Ultimate x64 on a new drive on my older HP dual-core machine. I used this adapter with that setup no problem. I have since built my new machine and re-installed Win7 on it and the adapter worked for about a day. After that, the D-Link Connection Wizard failed to start. The device manager said that the adapter was working properly, yet it could not detect any networks. Strange. I then started reading about WLAN autoconfig. I know what it means, but couldn't find it on my system (?). I read on some other forum that the autoconfig could possibly have been corrupted somehow (and I'm assuming by the updates that Windows installed because that is THE only thing I had installed on my new system). The solution was to re-install Windows 7 - NOT as a custom install, but as a Windows Upgrade. And that was it! It is, as I understand, a corruption in the registry that caused the failure but by re-installing 7 as an upgrade, I was able to get the adapter (and Connection Wizard) to start working properly again. I hope this helps.
