Try a Windows Update then. That means that a device it depends on is not working well. This has a chance of helping.

Hello all,

I've tried all the solutions here given and still don't have a working network adapter.

My Hardware Ids are:
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_0900&SUBSYS_09001849&REV_90
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_0900&SUBSYS_09001849
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_0900&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_0900&CC_0200

Following the install instructions, it gives me the following error:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."

Thanks.

Hello Torentg
(This is the first time I have posted a message so don't really know if I am doing it right - I apologise if this is incorrect)
I am thinking of buying windows 7 and ran the advisor tool that tells me to download the latest driver for SIS900 based PCI fast ethernet adaptor and save before installing windows 7. I have read your comments and noticed that you are very clever with computers. I am an oap novice but I followed a lot of your advice and looked up my details and typed them up. They are
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_0900&SUBSYS_18081019&REV_91\3&61AAA01&0&20
Does this make any sense to you and if so I would be so grateful if you could help me find where to download the drivers.

I have a PCChips M848A (v5.0) SiS Socket A ATX Motherboard with a SiS 900-Based onboard Fast Ethernet Adapter. I used the latest driver supplied by my motherboard manufacturer. The installer (setup) wouldn't work, but when I used the browse option and pointed 7 to the driver folder it installed fine. I think the driver was listed as "Windows All" so I'm guessing it was windows Vista compatible. That PC was 7 x86. The second time I did a clean install on that PC it had a wireless card in it that worked right away. Windows then downloaded a driver for the SiS 900 NIC. I've been meaning to hunt that driver down and save it to a flash drive but haven't yet. Looks like I'll be doing some searching latter on today. It also looks like I'm not the only one running old hardware. :geek:

Many thanks for your advice. I received a reply back from PC Chips advising that it was a very old motherboard (it was purchased in 2003) and that they did not do a driver now but had searched the internet and found this attached driver which they hope will work for me. The only trouble is I do not want to pay out for Windows 7 and then find that I have to stick to XP or buy a new motherboard because the driver did not work. I have attached the driver PC Chips found for me on the internet.

You can run windows 7 for 30 days without entering a product code or activating. If you don't already have windows 7 Microsoft is offering a free 90 day trial of Windows 7 Enterprise. Enterprise is the business equivalent of Ultimate. You could install that and test out all your drivers before spending any money.

This thread has been going on for a while now, and just today I install HP on an old ECS L7S7A motherboard with the same SIS 900 NIC on it and got it working no problem. The steps involved were as follows,

1. Go to SIS first and download the last version of the driver,

SiS - Welcom to Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation.

or here it is if the SIS link won't work, Download sl119.zip

and stuck it on a USB key (or another partition/drive if you have one).

2. Install Windows 7 as usual.

3. Once 7 was installed unzip (or unzip beforehand) the SIS driver, open Device Manager, right click on the "unknown ethernet adapter" and select update driver, select "Browse my computer" and point it to the extracted folder.

Remembered seeing this thread and the trouble that most were having with this, so was rather surprised when the driver installed; didn't even have to use compatibility mode for it to install. After it was installed I then hit Windows Update and there was an updated driver for it through there dated from 2008 (2 years newer than the last XP driver).

Hi Gatuxo. Did that work for you? I just noticed it was an x64 driver I uploaded. This attachment here is for x86.

Hi Zolikaa1...

My attachment is for 32-bit x86 that will work well for both of you. Install using the device manager. Enjoy! (Please let me know if this is successful.)
