Windows 7 testers should upgrade their IE8

The first release candidate for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, released last month, addressed a number of technical behavioral issues that, according to IE8 Program Manager Herman Ng yesterday, included some serious crashes and system hangs. That's normal for even a public beta like IE8 Beta 2, and the new Crash Recovery feature in RC1 addresses 94% of these "reliability problems," Ng said, albeit with what could be for many testers a very well-used safety net.


But what about Windows 7 beta testers? The IE8 release candidates currently available are for Windows Vista and Windows XP, separately. Microsoft decided it would be a good idea to address their concerns as well, so yesterday, it begain issuing a "reliability update" for its version of IE8. This doesn't make its IE8 a "release candidate for Win7," though it does roll up the various fixes implemented in the Vista and XP RC versions.

Good thing because it was ridiculous for them to keep their beta testers on a less reliable version till April. It would just reinforce people to not use IE which is exactly what happened with me.

Yes, you should have gotten this in yesterdays updates, it's for Windows 7 build 7000, not xp or Vista..

I just got those updates installed. However, the KB page for 962921 was not up yet! At least not when I clicked on More Information in the above posted image.

Please guide me.
I use Firefox or GChrome, not IE.
However I HAVE to use IE for certain sites.
For example MS downloads.
What do I do? Do I get this IE upgrade, and if so, how...

Well, if you read the article...this is the IE update you should have been issued in Windows Update yesterday. Not so much an upgrade really, more of just a few fixes.

Hello Airbot, thanks for answering me.
Righto, one reason I am confused is that I read that all the updates for Seven were dummies, just testing the update process.
It now seems that some are valid and should be installed.

Next: I have not been offered any updates by MS.
Should I go looking for them, and if so, what?

Umm, and I did read the article, and sorry, but I do find it confusing.

Well, that's what they were saying, that it would be 5 test updates...
It seems most of us got 5 updates yesterday but for me, only 2 were tests and the other 3 were actual updates. I don't know why you haven't got them if you have build 7000. Are you positive you haven't gotten them? Have you Viewed your Update History in Windows Update?


Are you running 32 or 64 bit?

And is it activated with a key?

Thank you Airbot, I looked where you suggested in Windows Update - dunno where to find it, so I did a search from the start button. It worked and took me straight there. Hooray.
I have two tests and a few updates sitting there. I shall address them tomorrow morning. It's late now.
