AVG is good for a free Anti virus. But not worth paying for. Also Avast is better than AVG (both paid and free version)

But my choice will be Kaspersky internet security 2010, does the job for me and looks nice too :)

AVG is good for a free Anti virus.

Serg, AVG and good do not belong in the same sentence lol ;). I can't begin to tell you how many pcs on here have bsod because of it, have had very poor performance and other issues as well.

MSE

There's the old saying that goes, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

But in the case of MSE, I think it is, in fact, all that it's cracked up to be.

I have run the gamut over the years (paid lots of money), and I'm gonna stick with it.

It's unreasonable not to trust it because it's free; other free ones are very popular and highly regarded.

Maybe there's suspicion because it's Microsoft? Look. Do you really think MS would unleash a product on the world that is going to allow all those nice new computers with Windows 7 to get infected? C'mon.

I think the main concern, if that's the right word, is that it's so simple. This is by design, of course. No endless popup windows, no deep tweaks, no nagging, no nothing. Just that little green castle with the check mark.

I have run every online test I could locate, and MSE found each and every threat and nuked it. It even found trojans in downloaded music I have had stored for years.

I like it.

you know, why people dont believe it, because it's new and it's product of Microsoft. For so many years Microsoft tried to make their OS secure and etc. But even after all this years Windows is one of the most vulnerable OSs.
And MS once already unleashed product which wasnt worth it (VISTA!!!), so they could have made the same mistake again.
And most people just dont want to believe on products of one company. (Microsoft OS, Microsoft Firewall, MSE.
No offence meant to anybody. It was just my opinion. ;)

MSE is probably a very good product because you are guaranteed to not get bsod because of it.

Besides, who's better to protect an OS than the engineers/company that designed it in the first place? ;)

As I always say, stay far far away from AVG. I've never seen a bsod from NOD32 or whatever that is, nor Avast. So those may be safe bets too.

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security with integrated Kaspersky is excellent. Please note, I am speaking specific to this exact product and not other versions. That's neither intended as good nor bad.

How does someone filter out all the different opinions. I am fairly new at this and have had at five member suggest different anti virus programs. I would think that it is just personal preferences.

Only the Proactive is old, besides, Kaspersky is still at the top on the new one.
Cheers Kaspersky user, you'll realize when you have KIS2010 on your PC.

Last year, I was a Windows Vista 32-bit user and hadn't used an antivirus or antispyware solution, except Windows Defender and my laptop had not been infected by a virus. I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 64-bit, which this antivirus does handle viruses, trojans and spyware very well for being "free"!

How did you know that your laptop had not been infected by any virus? Have you check it with other AV?
