On Windows 7 32 bit build 7077 the HD LED "ticks" once per second. I googled and found related issues with CDROM drives and AutoPlay. The fix for XP was to set AutoPlay to 0 in the registry for the CDROM device.
I have AutoPlay set to 0 running Windows 7. If I disable the CDROM device in Windows 7 the once per second "tick" of the LED goes away. If I enable the CDROM device it comes back.
If I boot to XP Pro SP2 there's no ticking. I suspect a Windows 7 driver issue. Anyone hear of this and a solution?
edit: when I say "solution" I mean other than pull the wire to the LED, put black electrical tape over the LED etc.. I mean a real solution.

Though I do feel the need to reply to a post that was made to me. Yes, newer doesn't always mean its fixed, but it doesn't mean its not fixed either. You also have a pre-RC build, if it was RC or higher I'd be more helpful but as I said. :|

agreed, you should at least try an in-place upgrade to one of the post-RC builds. you wont lose your apps and it should fix a lot of things. try to find build 7201 thats one of the last that worked with the RC keys

Yeah, it's basically the "install the latest version" reply we were all taught in support. It's not that big a deal now that I know for sure what it is. It is a bit ridiculous to expect someone to reinstall the whole OS to see if it might work. Those upgrades never work that I ever experienced. You either have to do a Custom install or format the partition and do it clean. Either way means reinstalling all my apps.
Fortunately in the last couple of weeks I noticed an AutoHotKey script that blinks the Scroll Lock LED to reflect disk access. I made a couple of small modifications to it, such as saving the state of the other LEDs on each poll so when you quit the program the other LEDs will be in the correct state. I wanted to use it because my towers are under the table forcing me to lean back to see the LED.
Anyway, you can download the script from this link:
I recommend using the AHK compiler to compile as a stand-alone exe. I'm using it now and fortunately it ignores the 1 second pulse. Makes it easier to ignore the LED on the tower. Just google for AutoHotKey compiler. It's a free download and program. Very cool for making small scripts for PC customizations and utilities.
If your machine is under the desk or in a drawer it may be of some use to you.
