Black screen after installing GeForce GT220

So when I bought this video card today (GeForce GT220 if you didn't read the title) everything seemed to be going well until the reboot after the installation of the drivers. Everything starts up fine then it suddenly turns into a black screen after the Windows loading screen. The screen is black for a minute or two then goes into a blue screen and reboots itself. I've done many of the procedures other people has posted but nothing seems to work. If anyone can help me out that would be wonderful.

Computer: Dell Inspiron 530
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU 2.33GHz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (Installed last week from 32-bit Vista)
I'm not sure how to find the detail on my motherboard so if someone can help me out on that, thanks.


These are the minimum requirements for the Video Card

GeForce GT 220 - PCI Express 2.0 - 1GB DDR3
- 512MB of system memory (1GB Recommended)
- CD or DVD-ROM Drive
- 150MB of Available Hard Disk Drive space for basic driver installation
- Microsoft Windows 7, Vista or XP operating system
- PCI Express or PCI Express 2.0 compliant system motherboard with one vacant PCI x16 slot.
- 200W PCI Express complaint system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 18A or More*

*Minimum system power requirement based on a PC configured with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Hi.

You can use CPU-Z to find your motherboard info.

Do you know the wattage rating of your current power supply? And did you connect the internal power connector to the card, from the psu?

I actually do have a 500w power supply because of my previous video card(GeForce 8600 GTS), any other idea why it wouldn't be working??

See in the bios that the correct slot is set for primary display device, or similar setting.
Use Driver Sweeper from guru3d.com to clean you machine of previous NVIDIA drivers, after you uninstall normal method.

Reboot. Install latest NVIDIA driver. Use safe mode and the device manager if you have to and normal way fails.

Other than that, do you have any exclamation points in the device manager?

first of all thanks for the quick responses

and yea i've used driver sweeper during the 20 times of reinstalling the drivers and no method seemed to work. and no i did not have any exclamation points in the device manager.

Are you using the driver from NVIDIA's site? Install normal if not.

If you already are trying that one, boot to safe mode and use the device manager to install. Right click the card. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Find the NV_DISP.inf in C:\NVIDIA and double click on it. Hit ok. Hit next.

After install is complete, reboot to normal mode.

Make sure the card is seated firmly in the slot. Push down on it...nothing forceful....but a nice push nevertheless. Be careful, of course. Push in on the power cord attached to make sure it's seated in the connector well.

just tried that method and hoping it was the one, sadly no =[ i checked if everything was placed correctly and it passed. from reading my computers spec, could it possibly be a system issue?

Yeah. Something is obviously not well. You should be able to install the new driver under any conditions and have it reboot to a nice desktop, easily.

Do you have a lot of HDD or other things using power from the system's psu?

Find the NV_DISP.inf in C:\NVIDIA and double click on it. Hit ok

You mean right-click on it and choose install.

Should be done from Device Manager if there is an entry still there.

No I meant exactly as I wrote.

And that really shouldn't need to be done anyhow. Just running the normal .exe should install.

No offense, but do you mean double-clicking on an .inf file will install a driver?

It opens in Notepad.

Not when you follow what I wrote, using the device manager.

And you also can't install video drivers by right clicking on .inf in any way.

no i dont, i came across a forum about doing a bio/chipset update but i can't even do that from the Dell's support site.

A good idea, sure.

Visit Intel's site to update the chipset drivers for your G33/ICH9.

If that doesn't help, find out which motherboard you have and visit the manufacturer's site for a bios update. CPU-Z will tell you.

When i try to install the bios update it says - WinFlash: "Load Driver Failed!!"

And for the chipset it says - Error: This operating system is not supported. Setup will exit.

and CPU-Z catches the CPU, CACHE, and MEMORY. Not my motherboard

That's not Intel's site. Intel has Windows 7 drivers for you.
