Speaker does not turned off when headphone is pluged in

I have a LG LW20 Express and have just installed Windows 7 + Realtek's lates driver for W7 (from Realteks homepage).

Everything work OK without that when I plug in headphone speakers does not turn off. When I plug in headphone I get a question what I have pluged in, I choose headphone but I still have sound out from my speakers.

Go into Control Panel>Sound and look around. See if there is anything of interest there.

Uninstall the Realtek in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and the Realtek will be detected and reinstalled. This seems to fix a lot of flakey problems and may take care of yours.

To access the Device Manager, hold the Windows key down and press the Pause/Break Key. When the panel comes up, Device Manager can be accessed from the list in the upper left of the panel. RIGHT click on the Realtek in the Device Manager then LEFT click on "Uninstall" (DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers). Then restart the PC.

Tried to uninstall the driver did not help. Have not find any thing to change in controlpanel.

Any other tip.

That is normal behaviour if you have HD audio but are using an AC'97 front panel. These work together, so you can plug headphones in and use them as normal, but only a HD compliant front panel will cause the rear sockets to mute automatically.

I am also having this problem on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 board (SoundMax). I am running SPDIF to my receiver, and when I plug in my headphones to the front port, it recognizes them but doesn't play sound in them nor mute the SPDIF out. I am fairly certain I have it set to HD Audio on the front panel (not AC97). When I test the headphones they work properly, they just don't work otherwise (they worked fine before I connected my SPDIF out to my receiver).

Also depending on how you connect the motherboard to the computer case's audio ports and as well how sound is configured in the Bios, automatically muting the speakers will not happen unless the correct config is present, for which you might have to fiddle a little.

No, there is no setting for this; I have looked everywhere in the SoundMax and Sound Panel. The only setting which I could find that I thought might do something was "Independent Front Headphones" in SoundMax, which I tried checking, and that just seemed to add "Headphones" as a Sound Device in the Sound Panel when connected (as opposed to just falling under the "Speakers" Device), but it still didn't work (nor mute the SPDIF).

I think I connected everything properly on the Mobo. And in the Bios it is set to HD Audio, and has been since build. Maybe I'll try AC'97?

My headphone port does work; it just doesn't automatically mute the SPDIF and set Headphones to master sound. I have to go into Sound to set Headphones as the Default Device and switch it back to SPDIF when done. Annoying if you ask me.

So, shall I install an other driver from Realtek or is it nothing to do? It worked on XP so the posibility must be there.

Update: I just tried to update to Realtek's AC'97 driver without any succes. It would not install. Installation program get stucked even if I say yes to install a unsigned driver, strange?

I tried Firebird's suggestion, but it didn't work. And now SoundMax is gone, and it uses HD Digital Audio - or something along those lines - instead (SoundMax appears in my control panel, but when I click on it, nothing happens). This Audio driver seems worse than the SoundMax one, and if neither are going to correctly mute the sound when headphones are plugged in (and automatically switch to headphones), then I want to use SoundMax again.

So, do I have to dl and re-install the SoundMax drivers (from Asus)? I dl'ed it, just wanting to make sure this is the right thing to do before I do it. Would dl'ing the RealTek driver be beneficial at all? Or would that even work?
