Hello. I have a netgear router dg834gv4 which I have updated with the recommended update to use W7 x64 ultimate. This router is working fine with an IBM laptop , a Dell laptop and an old PC - all on Windows XP. I have purchased a brand new pc fitted with Windows 7 x64 and because my old wg111v2 adapter doesn't yet have W7 support, on the advice of the Netgear tech support I bought a wn111v2 and downloaded the latest drivers for it. Although in device manager the adapter is shown as working fine, I can't persuade it to see any networks and there are usually three or four in my area (not all mine of course). I can't see how to get it working. Help appreciated please

I just ran the troubleshooter on my network and in the detection details dialogue box I got a message

"There might be a problem with the driver for the network connection 2 adapter" and also says "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter".

Any clues please?

Hello Nigel, thanks for responding back. I appreciate the info however this is not the NIC, what you are showing me is a network adaptor. I was referring to your onboard NIC card on the motherboard. Asus has been slow to rollout updates for some of their mother boards. I've seen issues with other Netgear users. But I also see you custom built yor system so I suggest you update your motherboard chipsets and your LAN/NIC card. Here is the link, and attached is a screen shot.

As I've only just bought this system you would have thought that the Asus components would have been up to date - I'll check that with the builder on Monday. Thanks for the link on the driver - as I am inexperienced with computers, please can you explain the last instruction about the hardware manager and installing manually for me.

Thanks all for your help.

Hello again. I found out that the WN111v2 adapter I had didn't have the W7 ultimate drivers and Netgear didn't know when they would be available. As my PC is in a different room from the router I really need wireless. I took the WN111v2 back and purchased a Linksys WUSB600N v2 instead because it is advertised as supporting W7 - it doesn't!! I am having error 211 message if I try to install from the supplied CD and if I try to install from the latest drivers from the Linksys site, I get "access is denied" message. I'm really fed up - any solutions gratefully accepted please.

I already posted the solution for your last adaptor. It was an updated driver made just for your adaptor and Windows 7.

Digiroka said this. Just signed up to let you know I have my w111v2 working in win 7 x64 rc1.

To find out how he got it to work just read the thread in the link below.
http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=35415&page=2

Driver from that page is here>>> http://nexose.net/netgear/WN111v2_extacted.zip

I'am not sure how much more easy I can make this for you but if you can think of a way let me know. :)

appreciate your comments chev65 but the link for the method and download didn't work for me. I spent 4 hours on the phone to Netgear support and they conceded that Netgear don't have drivers for Win7 that are tested and compatible. I can only go by what they say and the fact that I couldn't get it to work. I went in to device manager and selected the driver, tried to manually install it and it wouldn't. I've taken it back on that basis and bought one that was supposed to be compatible with W7 and the Linksys one is the same. This isn't an updated computer its brand new and the technical people from where I bought it say that there isn't one available from anyone at the moment. Bear in mind I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, just an ordinary user who relies on technical people for their advice - I'm sure someone here has a fix that works, its just a question of finding one. To reiterate my first point, I appreciate your earlier reply very much, I didn't ignore it - it just didn't work.

They are wrong and the thread I linked you too proves that beyond any shadow of a doubt. Three people there said the problem was fixed, I don't know what more proof you want but this is the best solution your going to find for this particular problem.

If the linksys one did the same thing than your problems are probably somewhere else. WN111v2 and Windows 7 - Page 2 - NETGEAR Forums

Contrary as it may seem, the tech support people you are connected to are not always (ever?) the first ones to receive updated information. Equally perverse; many driver issues are often much better resolved by going to the Windows update site than direct to the manufacturer download.

Especially if you aren't comfortable making alterations to your computer system, it might actually save time and energy to take your computer to the router cable and let Update find the best wireless driver for you from Safe Mode with Networking.

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem. I have tried a number of "solutions" I have found in forums but none of them have helped really. This is the third wireless adapter I have tried. My friends old USB adapter worked in my machine perfectly and without installing any software so I really don't know whats going on.
