I am having 2 problems with the new Windows 7 beta version

1. I have had the OS (Windows7) for 2 weeks - all has been good till today where the laptop is not acting slower 9about 1-2 seconds) and not running smoothly either. I have a HP Pavillion 6690.

2. The buttons for the volume on the Quikplay above the keyboard for volume do not seem to be working properly either....

If anyone can help - please email let me know !
Thanks
Michael

Did the quickplay buttons ever work with 7? You may have to install extra drivers/software to get those buttons to work..

Has the computer been on this whole time or have you already tried simply restarting it?

I assume they did (the mute button works)
I have rebooted it the laptop many times and even done a disk scan !
I see that sometimes the laptop works fine - then all of sudden its not smooth and jagged edge if you know what I mean !
Where can i get these drivers ?

Id bet its a program thats slowing you down (If you haven't changed any windows 7 settings)

Don't assume anything when using a beta operating system. You never know what will work and what won't. The only way to know is to try.

Drivers should be avilable from hp: Product search results

I don't know exactly which model you have. You'll want to try the Vista drivers for quick launch buttons.. if you have Windows 7 64-bit, youll want the Vista 64-bit drivers. If you have Windows 7 32-bit, youll want the Vista 32-bit drivers.

32-bit = x86
64-bit = x64

That could just be lag time with the Beta.

Well I meant that the Beta will have some glitches, and that may be causing it. Other than that I don't know.

See if this relates to your problem.

Also: I know there is a command to repair system files, but I can't find it. Its something like sfc/ sannow or something but I dont think thats it.

It is /sfc scannow

You can also use the disk checker to check for errors.

Id bet its some software, check task manager when the pc is acting up and see if a process is spiking up the CPU usage (When it lags). (Right click the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and go to Start Task Manager, then go to the Processes tab).

Did you install any of the HP apps onto W7?
There probably problems there if you did and I would suggest not installing any of the HP "helper" apps that Vista came with, on W7. Like their HP Quick Launch bar, it may be incompatible (in part) with W7 from what I've read.
Also, you can use msconfig to shut down your startups and reboot to see if this helps. If so just add them back one at a time and reboot between adding one, until the lag comes back. The last one you loaded before the lag started again is your culprit.
