Windows 7 Pro XP Mode Wireless NIC won't join Domain

I have setup XP Mode on my Windows 7 Pro laptop. XP Mode boots up works great with NAT selected on the network settings.

I cannot for the life of me join our business' domain once I select the wireless card (I obviously don't use NAT to try to join, for I know that will not work). I have a wired selection to and even using that it won't join the domain.

What I want is for the wireless option to be used because we move around the company with our computers so being wired at all times will not work and I need to be on the domain for testing in the XP mode. Is there something I'm doing wrong? If you would like more information and or screen shots on the error I get let me know. We have windows vista machines running Microsoft Virtual PC with XP installed from an OEM cd and joined them to the domain with no problem on wireless and wired.

just tried joining my windows xp virtual machine to the domain (base OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64) and it cannot see the domain controller. not using wireless at all and i can ping outside to the internet and internally within my office's network. i'm stumped.

You and me both holty....doesn't seem that this thread is going anywhere or anyone is noticing this issue? in what I do being unable to join a domain it makes the virtual xp mode really useless....

I'm having the same problem, but NOT using wireless.

My system is a Dell M4400 laptop with 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD HDD, 10/100/1000 on-board NIC.

Windows 7 x64 joined to a domain.

I installed XP Mode on my Win 7 x64 VAIO notebook today at work. After a successfull installation I fired it up and XP worked fine.

Next, I attempted to join our domain. I attached the notebook to our network with an ethernet cable. I set XP Mode's network connection to something other than the NAT choice, I think it was Intel ethernet? Anyways, after restarting XP Mode, I was able to setup the domain, then rebooted the XP Mode and logged into the domain with my regular domain username and password. I can browse the local network, install network printers, see the NAS shares that I normally see from my work desktop running XP, etc.

So far, the only weird thing is that when I resize the XP Mode window, it goes black for a few seconds and then I have to re-login to the domain. Then everything works ok again.

I'll check my IP settings for the host and guest adapters tomorrow and post the specifics, maybe it will be helpful?

anxously awaiting your post, thank you. can you please share the configuration of your xp mode network adapter? why would i need to change those settings at all?

I don't know if these settings are actually correct, or the best choices, but they are working for me. The domain I am joining is run on a Windows 2003 SP2 server. I think it's using Active Directory too, but I'm not expert in this area.

Have you tried to disable all the Network Connections (execpt for the interface you are going use) and then try to join the domain?

That is just odd because originally I had tried all the other connection XP Mode offered, and knew not to use NAT. I have a M4400 as well. I'll have ot give it another try and I'll let you know if that works....

I have a Dell M4400 64-bit running windows 7 pro, my wireless card is a Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN....also is XP mode only available with 16 bit??? :huh:

XP mode settings to attach to domain with NAT

This is what I did to make this work using NAT (bridged is way easier but if the IP addresses are limited NAT may be necessary) on a Vitrtual XP machine.
Set VM settings to use NAT. After logging in to the XP VM change the TCP/IP settings within the virtual machine to use the VMs gateway (192.168.131.254) as the preferred DNS server and the domain's DNS server as the alternate.
Then:
Start Registry Editor.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ Kerberos\Parameters
*Note: If the Parameters key does not exist, create it now.
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type MaxPacketSize, and then press ENTER.
Double-click MaxPacketSize, type 1 in the Value data box, click to select the Decimal option, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.
Add the VM to the domain (you may need to use the FQDN)
Restart the virtual machine.
Login to the domain.
It still takes a bit of time to login once completed but comparable to starting a physical PC.

Thanks for the help, changing the NIC settings in the vm is what did the trick for me!
