Internet Explorer 8 can be removed from Windows 7

Thanks exclusively and entirely to efforts between Chris Holmes and me, we discovered that Internet Explorer 8 can be removed from at least Windows 7 build 7048, which is a good sign for regulatory overlords in the EU and in the States. Given that this change doesn’t exist in Beta 1, the odds that this change will persist through to RC are quite high. Don’t believe this can be done? Well, how about a Windows Features dialog below for proof?

I like this option too,but will be nice if we can totaly remove the other components too(not only icon and shortcuts)like WMP,messenger,media center................

You've got it. - its really only disabled.
I posted the path to handle the process, exclusively (lol) some time ago. But it disables it and hides the IE exec somewhere. If you restore it, everything, including your favorites if you have them, are as they were.

I don't really understand why the fusss though. It is a facility put in purely as a retaliation to legal attack. If users don't like it, just ignore it and use another browser. I discovered that you still are unable to install an older IE.

I for one, will not disable it, as I use it as well as ff and see no reason to disable it.

Yeah, only from 7048 and above.

I agree with Airbot. It is still there. What it does in all that time, whilst disabling, I have no idea. I takes just as long to enable it again.

It's another option. I have to use it for Microsoft sites, as firefox doesn't display properly sometimes.

I had not realised it, but my computer illiterate wife has just pointed out that this is a feature of XP. See attached.

Ah not impressed with this.... hoping for a new n/vLite type app when this hits retail...

I never use it unless i have to (some ms pages require it for downloads etc..), firefox with the glasser and other addons is far better IMO.
