Hi

Hope everyone is well.

ok this is more vista forum related. I tried using this log in and it wouldn't accept my name and log in. I don't wish to create a new account. Sorry ( vista will not be my issue soon)

ok first point this is the final machine in a long running virus infection. I am doing this because it is my old machine that i gave to a friend and they have given me permission to through it in the bin if it doesn't work. I want to get the machine up and running. the window 7 and xp machines are all working well

Ok I tried getting help else. (sorry long story) This laptop has no keyboard due to the fact that i spelt water on it. I am able to have access from a pc2 keyboard ( i know i have enter that wrong). i have working keys to enter and what ever in bios. I can get past in installation the ram something loading screen,

I have wriped the hard drive. The bios isn't acting normal. I have spoken about this to a friend of my who is very IT savvy. I can't reset the bios to boot from cd. I think on this machine it has to do with the infection.... I reset the bios on this machine before and at the moment it acts like the virus and doesn't let me scroll down.

I have downloaded the bios flash from acers for my machine. I just don't know how to create a bootable dvd to flash the bios. this is what i need to know what to do

The rig is acer aspire 3680 laptop running vista home basic

sorry guys i know this is windows 7 forum ( which i love and running on my new machine). I have also shot of an email to avast ( used them for years) to see if they want the infected usb thumb drive so know one else goes through)

cheers

vicvic

ps the vista machine can go in the bin if i can't get it up and running but i would love too

Well we can try to help the guy here cant we? So, format the hard-drive, open the laptop, take the bios-battery out, and put it back. Now the computer is as clean as a whistle. Now go to the bios and change the primary boot device to the CD-bay. Now insert the Win 7 cd, and try to install. Post your results here.

Ok i have tried the above i still can't change the boot order. It is doing what the virus was doing not letting me move down.

I have posted on vista and know one has responded.

I have tried to create an boot cd for the bios. I have tried everything suggested on the internet. I am trying to create this image on a windows 7 machine. Could someone please give me some pointers how to do this.

The problem i am having is the burn software won't see the bios files and i don't know how to create a dos disk.

Thanks in advance

cheers

Sounds like to me you want to know how to flash the BIOS. Got a thumb drive? I am going to post a tutorial hopefully in an hour that will detail the process

On quick question. I have create the usb drive bootable. Will this work on an acer as this is the machine that i want to do my bios flash on.

the note pad that came with the bios said the following

To flash in Windows mode, pls install Winflash utility as in Winflash.zip.
To flash in pure DOS mode, pls run: PHLASH16 xxx.WPH /mode=3 /S

P.s.
If you're using DOS bootable floppy (w/o himen.sys) created in Windows XP,
you will get an error like "can't present memory manager" while you
update the BIOS (ie himen.sys)

You may do either one of the two ways to resolve:
1. press F5 to bypass himem.sys
2. modify the parameter from /S to /X

The parameter /X for PHLASH is "Ignore XMS memory manager check".
The parameter /S PHLASH is "Silent operation (Turn off speaker)

thanks in advance

I still can't edit the boot menu.

I am now trying to reload the os to see if it makes any difference. I am unsure if it has more to do with the no functioning key board

sorry missed your post.

It took me a bit to really get them to flash. I had to take the hard drive out and then force reset default. Run the usb drive again. Restart the computer. Force defaults again. Now i can access the menus in the bios.

so over this hopefully getting there.
