Hi guys , I have a problem with the screen resolution. I set my resolution to optimal that is 1900x1200. Windows starts up with this resolution but after a couple of seconds it resets to 1024x768. Then i change it back to 1900x1200 and no problem throughout the session. Even if i log off or change user.
However after restarting i get same problem.
I'm running latest nVidia drivers

Any ideas anyone:)

I have nVidia 9300 GE
Samsung T240HD

Open Start, type msconfig and press <Enter>. Choose the Startup tab and click Disable all. Click OK and reboot. The resolution change won't happen anymore.

Now that you know it's a startup program, you should be able to find and remove it.

I disabled all startup items. No success but solved it in a way.
I reinstalled win 7 but this time i didn't install the nVidia drivers. For some reason i don't have the problem but then again i don't have the nVidia control panel. Win7 does install the right drivers though.

I have the same problem as this. However I have an ATI Radeon card. Basically, the resolution resets to 640x480 every time I turn the computer off. I think it may be a hardware issue, because if I run the ATI utility I have to tell it to detect the monitor again. Works fine after that, but I was wondering if anybody knew why it was happening.

I also have this same problem, except my widescreen res changes back to 1024x768. I've also got an ATi card and I've searched many a time on the internet and I think it may have something to do with certain monitors, as mine is LCD tv. Even though the monitor is installed and doesn't have faulty cables (tried many) the issue still occurs. I just have to click 'detect' under the display settings or pull the DVI out of the back and plug it back in.

@ pocketpride and sunnybyfleet if your using a laptop with a mobile graphics card, the drivers seem to be needed to be modified to work properly. The .inf file For nvidia cards providing your card is listed you can use NVIDIA MobilityModder - DriverHeaven.net If ATI use ATI MobilityModder - DriverHeaven.net Thses two tools have helped several others with laptop mobile graphic cards. If thoer not lappies then post back for alternitive solution. thanks Fabe

I'm using the ATi 4670 HD, with the latest driver downloaded off their site about 3 days ago, If i remember right it is driver ver 9.11. I am indeed using an LCD TV, it's a Samsung SyncMaster225MW. The driver has been installed for my monitor, when I load the computer up, it has reset the res of the monitor is also reset to 'Default VGA' with the res of 1024x768. I can either click 'detect' or unplug the cable from the back of the card and back in and it will identify my "SyncMaster225MW Analogue" with my native 1680x1050 res.

I have to cables and both have produced the same result, a standard vga to vga and also a dvi to vga. I do not have a dvi to dvi.

Any help is appreciated.

*Edit updated typo in res and filled out all my specs under my profile :)

I'm on a desktop with a Samsung 24" TFT (which looks really great @640x480) and an Asus ATI 5750. I do however connect via VGA instead of DVI, as I currently have a VGA KVM.

Hmmm, I guess that could have a bearing on matters. I could see if it works without using the KVM. However, I would be interested to see what you have to say first, Fabe.

This thread may be out of date, but it scores high in web searches for a current issue: Windows Live Mesh changes the welcome screen resolution shortly after the screen comes up. It may have been because I was using a different resolution when I first installed Live Mesh.

I just modified the DWORD values in the following folder for "width" and "height" to match my native resolution:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Live Mesh\Remote Desktop\DisplayDevices\DEVICE0
