Well, the labtop don't come with a Vista CD so if I do a clean install, I wouldn't able to get back to Vista, this is one of my concern and the other is I ran the Windows 7 upgrade manager and it seems that i may have driver problem with the nforce 560 chipset with 64bit, not sure about 32 bit. Now after reading a lot from the web there seems to be a number of people that can upgrade to Windows 7 with this labtop...I just want to be sure. I also checked most of my compoinents has Windows 7 drivers except the nforce 560 chipset...only Vista 32/64 bit drivers.

My plan is to upgrade my labtop from 2GB to 4GB before installing 7 64bit, so I just want to make sure the labtop could, if not may be 32bit 7 since I heard they are more older drivers friendly than 64bit.

Well your suspicions are correct about Nvidia only having chipset drivers for Vista 32bit and 64bit. So hopefully someone with the same 560 chipset can tell you if the 32 or 64 bit Vista drivers can be installed in compatibility mode and if they work properly.Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers For instructions on compatibility mode http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html You migth also want to use the search function on this site as well as trying to Google or Bing it. Good luck Fabe

Welcome to seven forums apvm: From what it reads like, Seven had all but his chipset drivers which can be found on the nvidia site these are the 32 bit version of the nforce 560 Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. Of course I'm assuming you have the same laptop. If not their are plenty of qualified people that can help you find the drivers you might need. Fabe

Really? What chipset do you have? I don't think the BIOS would be constrained.

My Humble Advise

I did mine clean install few days ago --- Success.

Remember, if u want to flash yr bios, u have to do it via XP, just u a Live CD version, flash it and all will be fine.

For Drivers, just go to ACER website, select yr model, 32 or 64 bits, and download both vista and windows 7 drivers, upzip them all into a directory, when you see unknown devices, just update them and point them to this folder and all will be fine.

At least mine is good.

Webcam Driver also included in the site.

Bios is version 3632 and I don't see newer version at their support site...I have 2GB of ram and planning on adding another 1 GB since someone is selling it to me for $15, looks like 32bit Windows 7 is a better bet than 64bit with drivers. Anyway...looking for a way to save the Acer hidded partition before installling 7 so I could go back to the original state if it doesn't work out....already burnt 2 dvd with Acer erocovery (factory default).

@apvm Just make sure the 1 gig of ram your going to use is as close to the other 2 your using. You can run CPU-z with the 2 gigs in, then take them out and run the 1 gig and compare the settings. If they are not of the exact same, or extremly close you can run into problems with the ram not playing nice together. Fabe CPUID

Hi! ^_^

I've Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed on my Aspire 4520 and is running without problems at all. I've installed all the drivers I could find for Windows 7 and for those who I can't find for 7 just installed their Vista counterparts. :p
Everything is working smoothly and perfect, without any device conflict in Device Manager. I'm using it without any single BSOD since 23 October (when I bought and installed 7) and I never turn off my notebook so... as you see, it's working more than perfect. :D
Also, I've installed Acer software that came originally for Windows Vista (downloaded from support.acer.com), like Acer Launch Manager, and haven't any issue at all.
I can play games (I use to play Workd of Warcraft frequently on my notebook), browse Internet, burn CD/DVDs, watch HD movies, listen to music...
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that 64 bits version of Windows 7 can run flawlessly because maybe you're wasting a good couple of MB. of RAM without reason. ;)
Give it a try... and if you need help, I can help you whenever you want. :)

Regards from Argentina! :geek:
