Hello Graham,

Your network adapter might be causing the wakeup. Try going into Control Panel>Device Manager. Find Network Adapters, and right-click on it it select Properties. Go to the Power Management tab, and make sure the both boxes are unchecked.

Hope this works,
~Jonathan

Is it a recurring problem? If not, we might as well let it go. If it persists, we can try to take care of it.

I have the same problem

I've been trying to track down the cause. I saw someone mention something about a sql update trying to install. I do have sql express 2008, but don't know if that's it. Googling for SQL and update leads to plenty of non-patch info.

I do get the time notice every time it starts. I've looked into Wake events and Task Scheduler stuff (which I would like to know a way to just view all scheduled events without having to click through each type).

I'm also getting this problem. "Wake source: unknown". Haven't been able to narrow it down. The machine is waking itself up about every 20 minutes.

I have three machines on my network which run W7 Ultimate 64-bit, all installed off the same install disk, so variables are narrowed down. Two machines don't have the automatic resume problem, one does. I wonder if it's hardware related, though even there my systems are not that different. My machine based on an Intel DG33TL mobo works like a dream, but my machine with the later Intel DG45ID board has the problem. I've installed all latest drivers & bios.

Those others who have the problem, what mobos are involved?

I'm pretty confident it's not the network (or the network adapter) that's causing the problem, because when I disable the adapter I still get the unwanted resumes.

This solution worked for me

Poking and prodding around I found this toggle.

Control Panel
System & Secutiry
Power Options
Change Plan Settings (for the one selected)
Change Advanced Power Settings
under Sleep
Allow Wake Timers
change it to Disable

I changed it two weeks ago and haven't had an unwanted start-up since.

I've messed with other things, but I'm pretty sure that's what did it.

Except that I bought a new DG45ID having thought I'd exhausted all other possibilities and it doesn't wake itself up, even with the wake timers still enabled.

So that tells me it's unlikely to be related to the wake timers, but I probably also didn't need to buy a new board because you fixed yours somehow :( Anyway, we're both in a better place now :)
