Bluetooth Dongle not working in Windows 7

My bluetooth dongle isn't working in Windows 7, it worked perfectly fine in vista, in which it worked fine. I can't figure out how to get it working with a driver, I never had a install cd or anything vista and xp ran it fine.

If someone can direct me to find a driver for this it would help greatly. I've tried to install the generic bluetooth driver and that didn't work either.

Please help!

Thanks!

what kind of bluetooth dongle is it?
a search for bluetooth dongles states that there are at least 50 different types from different manufactures, and probably none of them use the same driver.
tye any text that you see on the dongle here, and we can try to find the right driver.

Hello oneton95, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Have you looked here: Click the Start button and type Device manager
Look for yellow exclamation points, specifically for your bluetooth dongle?

Cheers!
Robert

Unless Im mistaken, you'll need to have the bluetooth software installed for that dongle so that you can configure pairing?

which is why you need to look at the dongle itself.
does it have any markings, or does it have a box?
do you remember what company made it?

After you install a driver that you think is good (check device manager), make sure that bluetooth (in services) is set to automatic. Services can be found by typing services in search.

Excellent! Now right click on those devices, select properties, then update driver. First try the Automatic search. If that doesn't do it, let us know and we can try plan B.

Cheers!

My brother is on windows 7 as well and has a bluetooth dongle which used to work on vista, but doesn't automatically work on 7. It did come with a driver CD, but this one didn't work on 7 either. I've installed the dongle for him by going to the manufacturer's site (in this case trust.com), and downloaded the latest drivers and it was working. Now my brother isn't really good with computers and wanted to install the dongle on another computer running windows 7 as well. He used a different approach and downloaded some automatic bluetooth software installer at Broadcom.com - Bluetooth RF Silicon and Software Solutions, the Widcomm Bluetooth Software.

This one automatically installed his trust bluetooth dongle as well. So you could give that a try, although as suggested before, you should look at the dongle itself, which manufacturer is it from?

If it is Microsoft, you have to go to their website to download the drivers/software. I learned this the hard way with my MS Presenter 8000.

can you tell us anything about it?
does it have any text or pictures on it? it should have at least a safety logo to prove that it is safe to use and (in tiny text) says it's frequencies warnings.
what colour is it and what shape is it? if it's a nano receiver or a giant square one we could narrow it down.
could you please upload a picture?

by law every electronic device should have safety logos, and the product information may be hiding in there.

Or just go spend $10 on a new one. Sorry but you know these no-name electronics devices are usually dead-ends, so even if you find the manufacturer, they may not have new drivers or software for it.

If you can't find anything and absolutely don't know the name of your Bluetooth Dongle, than try my earlier mentioned suggestion:

Download the Widcomm Bluetooth Software at Broadcom.com - Bluetooth RF Silicon and Software Solutions and see if it installs automatically.

Oh btw, do you have a vista install disk? If you do, insert it, right-click your bluetooth device in device manager (type device manager in start search) and 'update driver software' - select 'browse my computer for driver software - point to your vista cd and see if it installs.

If this doesn't work either, and you really want to solve it, right-click your device in device manager, properties - details and in the drop down menu select hardware ID's. Copy the information and try googling for it. Or download freeware hardware identifier software (Unknown Device Identifier - Freeware Download) and try installing using that.

Good luck, and let us know

I went to that website that you told me about Broadcom.com - Bluetooth RF Silicon and Software Solutions

they don't have drivers for windows 7? Just vista and xp. There are no names or symbols on the dongle except for 3 lines on both sides of the plastic piece. When its working I guess it's with all Bluetooth dongles it lights up blue if that helps. That's about it. I wanna thank everyone for their patience with me.

Is it this one?
usb-bluetooth-dongle.jpg

I can see why you weren't able to find the info on it - agter looking at a bunch of sites with a picture of it I still don't know who made it.
this one uses drivers built into Vista/XP like you said, so if they aren't in 7 then somebody else needs to find them (I can't)
nothing on the packaging.

That's weird indeed. Have you tried Broadcom.com - Bluetooth RF Silicon and Software Solutions for Vista? Because most vista drivers still work on windows 7. I'd give that a try and if you have a vista or win xp cd, insert it and look for drivers on that cd, as mentioned earlier.

PS. great picture :P

OP. Go into services.msc (type it in the search pane of the start menu) and set the Bluetooth Service to Automatic Start, and ensure you manually start it up to avoid the need to reboot after making these changes.

The issues you're facing are nothing to do with drivers as has been discussed, not one Bluetooth device will work unless it can first be detected and paired! ;)

Bluetooth Dongle

Your bluetooth dongle looks like
-it is a BlueSoleil model which came with my headsets.
Unfortunately the software disk is only good for Vista-not W7, so you have to download from the Soleil site.
Haven't got mine working yet either-but not giving up.
Good luck with yours.
