no 64bit flash player, 32bit IE crashes...

running win7 home 64bit

problem is theres no 64-bit version of adobe flash player. so I started using the 32-bit version of IE so I can use flash. every now and then it says "internet explorer has stopped working" ect.. says its checking for a solution to the problem and no solution exists of course

so anyway its prolly because its the 32-bit version and they didnt bother testing it enough on the 64 bit OS.

anyone else experiencing this?

Hello Scott,

The 64-bit Windows 7 comes with a 32-bit and 64-bit IE8, with the 32-bit IE8 as the default one to be used. It's hard to say without seeing the entire error code details, but when you get this error it's usually caused by a bad IE add-on that was installed, or a noncompatible outdated website. You might see if resetting Internet Explorer back to default may help.

i am using 32 bit on an acer laptop and 64 bit on my desktop.

never happened on xp, has only started happening since 7 was installed.

i have followed the guidelines from numerous sites including here, re-installed browsers, flash, tried beta 10.1 versions and re installed the os from scratch.

nothing, still crashes especially on the 64 bit and to be honest its getting very very annoying as no one seems to have a definitive answer but everyone knows its happening. heres hoping

Im sorry, but it seems that Firefox and Flash have a known issue. I think the best solution is to use IE. In any event this is what I found.

I'm having the same problem. I went from vista 32bit to win 7 32bit and now win 7 64bit. Since I made the last change I've has such a hard time with flash player. Any web page with flash will make IE and fire fox crash....and there are a lot of web pages with flash. I've done the damn guideline crap but still nothing. I went to school (only for a year, none the less) for this and I can't think of anything. Even my friends who are computer techs have no idea.

I don't want to have to wait for SP1.

Should I go back to 32bit?

There is no one, except yourself, that can answer that question. If it were me and I were not happy with 64 bit, I would definately switch back. You read the above posts, you know how you feel when your are having problems with 64 bit. Remember, it is not a life long commitment. Switch now if it makes you happy, then switch back when the situation changes.
If you read the entire thread, you will see the problem seems to be with IE 64 bit. All 64 bit OS, come equipped with both 32 and 64 versions of IE.

I had this problem and the solution is to turn off hardware acceleration of flash.

when playing a flash video, right-click on the video and go to settings.

un-click the box that says "hardware acceleration"

I will give that a try. if that fixes it, maybe the issue is with flash and the new version of DirectX in Win7

I never bothered to notice if the page had flash in it when it was crashing. it seems to happen just closing out of the browser

I get the same crashes in IE, "IE has stopped working", it has happened on Win7 32 and 64 bit installations so it is not a cause of the 64 bit version of 7. Mine usually crashes when I open mail.live.com so if it is caused by a poorly coded website, Microsoft is to blame. I don't have any IE add-ons installed except flash, and I don't think that is the cause as flash never caused any crashes with IE7 or 8 on Vista. It was only when I went to Win7 that the crashes started. This was also prevalent in the Beta releases of Win 7 for me. I just try to use Firefox most of the time, and will do so until 64 bit flash comes out, then I'll try 64 bit IE.

I turned off the hardware acceleration with no luck. I too have no IE add-ons or anything. I try and keep things simple.

are you using flash player 10.1 beta? because that beta version does indeed crash often... im currently using silverlight 4 beta and flash 10.1 beta2 and i dot get at least one or two crashes/day. But i just ignore them, reopening same page usualy loads it without crash.

reset the internet options, it works

control panel-> network and internet-> internet options-> advanced->reset

it works for me.
