Help with deleting a partition

I have just done a clean install of win7 on my daughter’s laptop her hdd has a OEM partition of 2 GB with the fujitsu simmms back up on it the rest of the hdd has win 7 on it. Obviously I no longer need the 2 GB partition as the vista o/s it came with is now no longer being used.

I have tried to delete this partition in disk management by clicking on it and hitting del on the key board or right clicking but when you do this the only thing that comes up is the word HELP.

Can anyone tell me how to delete this partition and merge it with the remainder of the drive?

What about when you are in Disk Management, highlight the partition and click on the "Action" tab in. It has the same functions as the right click.

Windows disk management is pretty primitive.

Use of a third party utility, like Easeus Partition Manager for example, offers you far greater control and much more operational power.

There's also a paid for professional version available, but the link above is to the freeware home user version.

We have really good luck here with free Partition Wizard CD, which will delete the partitions you want gone, Resize the Win7 partition into the space.

Only if the partition is an EISA locked partition does it need special diskpart override delete commands.

Most recovery partitions are disabled when a new OS is clean installed. You can test if yours still functions by tapping the key given for Recovery on the first bootup screen.

If you would like specific advice on deleting these and recovering the space into Win7, please post back here a Screenshot of your full Disk Management map, using the Snipping tool in the Start Menu, attaching file using paper clip in reply box.

I am now in the deep sh.. I tried the free partition wiz it seemed to work ok it deleted the 2gb partition then I resized the other one by the 2gb.

However, the pc now won't boot is says there is no o/s !!! my daughter is going crazy because all her photos and hundreds of £ of itunes music was on that hdd is they any way I can access the hdd to get her files back.

Anyone please help

Again my opinion....buy a second hard drive, install windows on it. You can probably still get all the data on the existing hard drive and now you have a system and stroage drive where your saved data will not be messed with no matter what happens to the system.

This is a lap top hdd, I have put in my desk top pc but is says the disk needs formatting before it can be read, I dare not do that as it will wipe the lot and I am hoping there might be some way of getting some files off the disk still

Put your Windows 7 disc back in run a repair.

I just reread your first post you said you did a clean install but later you said there was a lot of data you did not want to loose so it's sounding more like you did an upgrade not a clean install am I understanding right?

I'm guessing the partition you deleted was on the left of the 7 partition?

Run startup repair from the 7 dvd /recovery cd as already suggested to reflect the new offset.

No a clean install still keeps all your old data in a file called "windows old"

yes it was on the left, I have tried putting my win 7 (upgrade) disc in but how do you get to the repair option it seems to just give me the option for install

You did an in place upgrade a clean install is when you delete all partitions create new ones format them then install if you had done all that you would not be in this pickle.

Man I wish Microsoft would quit making upgrade discs I have seen so many people end up with problems due to upgrades always clean install it's the best way!

I don't think the upgrade disc will give you the option to do a repair correct me if I am wrong.

I have found the Repair option and I am now trying that, back soon

Ok thanks for the correction like I said I never due upgrades I wasn't sure I thought I had read somewhere that the upgrade disc was more limited.
