Hello folks. I recently built a system with the specs which are listed in my signature and profile. I have Windows 7 Ultimate running on it and have been experiencing blue screens during gaming and at the same point during the Windows Experience Index. I get the error message of:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\082209-23406-01.dmp
C:\Windows\Temp\WER-30046-0.sysdata.xml

I have the current drivers installed for my NVIDIA GTS 250 and my windows 7 version is up to date with the latest patches. I only have optional language packages in the update list.

I am not very experienced when it comes to these things and would love some help. Let me know if I need to provide any specific information.
I am at a loss.

Thank you for that helpful link. I have read through it and will be trying the MDSCHED and CHKDSK /R soon. If that doesn't show any issues, then I will be installing a different HDD and running a vanilla copy of Windows 7 like the next step suggests and see if the BSOD occurs during the windows experience index. Thanks, I'll keep you guys informed.

Phew... Now I am thoroughly confused. I took out my 4 DIMMS of memory and seated only two DIMMS. No blue screen during windows experience index. I swapped out the DIMMS and tested each of the 4 with no blue screens. I figured the motherboard was having problems with running more than 2 DIMMS. So, I stick 2 DIMMS in there and play around. The next day, the computer blue screen's with just the 2 DIMMS. I swap out the DIMMS for another different 2 DIMMS and same problem. I have no idea what is going on. It's odd that the blue screen was not there when I was playing around last night. Does anyone have an ideas?

-David

ps - MDSCHED and CHKDSK /R did not find anything at all.

Hi and welcome

You can use these to test your ram till it bleeds. run at least 5 passes. http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/53854-check-your-ram.htmlthanks and let us know the results

Thank you Zigzag3143. I'm doing that now. This is a most frustrating problem. I've been chasing this BSOD since I built the computer 6 months ago.

ps - holy cow, this test takes a while. I am testing all 4 DIMMS (total of 8GB). Based on my rough time estimates, it looks like 5 passes are going to take about 7.5 hours. I may stop this test and do it overnight.

I think you should try to test 2 sticks max at time. I tested my others two sticks together and it took some times too.

But 4 stick, in theory, should do not cause any problem, only slower to complete.

*sigh* 5 passes and no errors. Do the clean passes of Memtest86 completely negate the possibility of my ram being the cause of the BSODs? What is next to look into? Any thoughts on why it did not BSOD when I was swapping ram around?

Hi. I doubt 5 passes is enough. Try 10 passes.

No it does not mean the ram isnt faulty if it find no errors, but that's the case most of the time thought.

It can also be a compatiblity problem with the ram and the mobo. It's hard to say.

Honestly, try with 4 gig only. You do not need 8 gig of ram anyway, unless you do major video or graphism editing. some mobo do not like having more than 2 ram module in. it might be an issue in your case. Test it.
