Hello,

I would love to know a way to reduce Win7's text and other items on my screen by choosing a percentage lower then it's default of 100% (IE: 96 dpi). I became perplexed when I found out that Win7 wouldn't allow me to go below 100% (Appearance and Personalization > Display). Can anyone help me figure out a way to reduce the font size from 100% to 96%?

Edit:
Hmm, I checked the registry and it actually reads 96 dpi:
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\Fonts

I don't have the answer to your question, but I am curious why you would want to do this? You must still have very good eyesight...I have to increase the size of the fonts.

EDIT: It may not be precise enough for you, but you may be able to find what you want by using a different font.

Here is some useful information for using ClearType to change the text size on your display: Make text easier to read using ClearType.

Thanks, I think this will solve the issue for me.

Smaller fonts seem to reduce eye strain for me. I will try a different font though. Tahoma seems to appeal to me. Thanks!

There was a time when I could use far smaller fonts than now, but with age and the faintness of some fonts, like on webpages, I have adopted the Lydian font set. The style appeals, and setting it for bold makes the type stand out on the monitor. Lydian isn't a Windows font, but it is available for free download.

I tried that but it starts at 100%. Although I tried to edit it to 50% it doesn't do anything. Thanks anyway though. So far, changing the font has helped out a lot for me. Characters aren't as hard to read (blurry) as before. I didn't notice this until I actually changed the font.

Rumaging around, I found a setting that I hadn't noticed before. The Display settings in Appearance and Personalization has a link on the left called "Set custom test size (DPI). I haven't messed with it, but it looks like it would do what you want.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was wrong.

I did try that but when I hit enter to get it to change from 100% to 96% it only goes back to 100%.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was wrong.
No problem...thanks for the suggestion anyway.

So, far changing the font has solved the issue for me. What I thought I needed turns out to be a font issue. I am now using Tahoma font and so far everything looks great.

Are you sure? When I click on VIEW and ZOOM, there are ranges from 400% down to 50% and also a Custom that can make it anything you want. It does work. I made it so small I could not read a thing.
