Fallout 3 on Windows 7.

I found all my issues with FO3 resolved when I installed a decent copy. I had a "reloaded" 2GB in size copy on, and the game would crash frequently, and there were certain places on the map that would trigger it, but I've only had about 3 crashes in well over 40 hours of play now, which I put down to the version which is actually installed on my lappy.

Hello, I have a notebook with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, and I'm trying to run Fallout 3, but, every time I click new game and it is going to load, the game minimizes and shows an error message, closing the program.

I've tried to run as admin, with compatibility with XP and Vista, tried to run in DirectX 9 (this made BioSHock run), but nothing seems to run. I'm going to download other copy to see if it isn't a problem with it.

Don't know if this matters, but my Video Board is: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

Thanks.

Well, the game ran in a PC with a ATI x1200, which, I suppose it's worse.

My notebook:

Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium T4300, 2100 MHz (10.5 x 200)
4gB RAM DDR2
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

I don't know how much RAM is designed for the video adapter. I don't know how to acces the BIOS, when I tried to turn on the computer pressing some random buttos I showed up in a page asking if I wanted to boot Windows 7 xD

Is it hardware problem, the game is running in minimal quality.

PS: Ninja Blade is giving the same problem :( fuuuuu

The ATI is only a little better. GIve up - games are not designed for integrated chipsets.

The architecture is not designed for games - a 4890 has 800 shaders while integrated has none and weak clocks. It also uses system memory.

Ok, here some tips to how to find out what the problem "could" be. Start the game, have a look at what time you start the game and approx what time it crash (hour, minutes and seconds).

Hit Windows Button (lower left corner) and right click on "Computer" and choose "Manage". Then, go into the "Event Viewer" and have a look in the different journals if you could find an error message corresponding to the time of the crash that could help point out what the problem actualy is.

Do you have lastest video drivers, sound drivers installed on the computer, if not, install the lastest drivers available for your different devices, often it fixes the problems.

Keep us informed.

The drivers aren't updated, but they aren't very old, and I really don't like of messing up with this kind of things xD Specially, because in the Intel's site there is one version, and in Vaio Support site, there is another version of the video adapter's driver, and I got really confused..

Thank you for your help

The latest version is 1.7, but as already stated, you don't really have the hardware, so regardless of what you do, you're probably always going to have issues running the latest games.

Kudos for persistence, but it's already been made quite clear that onboard graphics are no good to play graphic intensive games.

success!

I wanted to pass on my appreciation for this exhaustive thread. My situation was that i had F3 GOTY working but it suddenly stopped working. After following almost every suggestion here, the tip about codecs was the key, i had recently installed Tsunami filter pack 3.9.9.

Did a complete uninstall of that and were back in business! :D:D:D:D

Thanks to everybody participating in the thread!

So your issue was codec's? Hmm, might look into removing the few ones that I have installed, if the situation gets worse.

I've recently had a bit more luck with my install of FO3, by setting compatibility mode and turning off desktop composition the game rarely crashes any more. There are a couple of area's that I have determined it will crash if I go there, just can't remember which ones :( Will do some testing tonight and see if I can find them again.

Is it a copy you've got, as it use to do the same for me until I got a decent 5GB in size version, and have you got the 1.7 update?
