Yes, Windows 7 SP1 is on the horizon

Holding out for SP1 before making the leap to Windows 7? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that Service Pack 1 for Microsoft’s latest OS is now on the horizon.

So, what’s likely to be in SP1? Top of the list will be all the patches and bug fixes that have been delivered to customers already. If you’re keeping up with patches than you already have these. On top of these patches and bug fixes will be tweaks and fixes based on feedback and telemetry received by Microsoft. Don’t expect anything ground-breaking here, it’ll mostly be under the hood tweaks.

SP1 will also bring with it support for new technologies. USB 3.0 is likely to be at the top of what is, admittedly, a short list.

The SP1 branch development has been in the works for a awhile.

It's not because of any big 'serious' problems with 7

*Raises hand* it hasn't been out that long, how many updates have there been like 10? 7 has been good to me so i don't have a problem with it.

I miss the beta days.. 7 was new and exciting. Now theres nothing new about it anymore.

Haven't had that happen to me.. Are you sure its not your WiFi itself, rather then windows? Could even be the driver just doesn't work properly in Windows 7.

Most business wait until the first Service Pack to come out before making the OS jump. Since Windows 7 is not really having any problems, I bet it is just a way to get them to "feel better" and make the jump to Windows 7 with a Service Pack out.

Quite a number of businesses are still running XP...even though Vista has had 2 service packs.

That'd be over a year from Windows 7's final release in Oct. 2009.. Since when is 1 year and 2 months quick for a company to release something?

Quite a number of businesses are still running XP...even though Vista has had 2 service packs.

There's word that Vista will be seeing an SP3 probably around the time SP1 is ready for 7.

It was 11 months for Windows XP and took 13 months for Windows Vista. So, nothing out of the ordinary here.

Is it just me or has anyone else only had 8 updates to 7? This is just for 7, not office or drivers.

There have not been many updates at all. Of course, to be fair, Microsoft only releases standard patches once per month.. Therefore, we have only had 3 patch Tuesdays (2nd Tuesday of the month), since the product released.
