Is it me, or does Windows 7 not have many new features?

I mean, I love it.. IT's the fastest OS I have ever worked on with a Windows platform. But, I really don't see anything that I would use on an everyday basis.

All I see, is Homegroups, an improved taskbar and extreme increase in speed. What am I missing?

Wouldn't you use 'an improved taskbar and extreme increase in speed' everyday? Some/most of the improvements are 'under the hood' so to speak. That's why it's faster. How about Aero snap or Libraries? I love those features. I also find that hardware that I had to fiddle with to get working now self installs. Yipee.

I think you were expecting a completely different OS. This is Windows this is what they do. I think Windows 7 has a bunch of great features.

Problem steps recorder
Improved remote assistance
Libraries
Memory usage better
Improved search
and many more things

If you don't like Vista I understand (barely) but Windows 7 is the BEST OS Microsoft has ever made and XP does not even compare. It's like Windows 95 vs XP.

I figured since Vista was such a marketing bust (I love it and don't understand why everyone hates it), that they'd do something so groundbreaking that it rattled the PC world. I haven't seen that yet.

I think people have certain expectations about what to expect from an OS thesedays.

They see OS X or Ubuntu and all the great app's that come with it and think that they'll be getting something similar with windows... and assume there are 'no new features' because there isn't an office suite or 'creativity' suite.

I don't think Windows will ever provide those things, but i think people are beginning to expect an OS to come with a certain degree of productivity/functionality out of the box - notepad, movie maker beta or that very basic photo live thing.

Because windows is so popular, they'd likely be accused of anti-competition if they did as the market for pro-sumer level applications on Windows is mammoth.

I also think when you compare the price of an OS X version and what it comes with and then the price of Windows Vista... you kinda start to wonder if you really are getting the best value for your money.

Vista Ultimate is a great example - aside from the few bitlocker and encryption features enabled, what was really 'ultimate' about it? Those language packs?!

Windows 7 has done a great job at optimising Vista under the hood and strides in a intuitive Windows UI, however at some point they really should think about offering a suite of apps for free or at the least for a very low price. They're sort of already exploring this with their enhanced Live! Suite offerings.

People say that Mac's work out more expensive despite getting all the great software for free but i disagree - by the time you've bought Windows, a decent office suite, decent movie and photo editing apps with comparable UI-friendly-ness and power as the iLife offerings then you're already spent several hundred pounds on top.

New features?

Some of them aren't directly included within Windows 7 because of anti competition laws.

Windows Live could be seen as new features.
Let us also not forget about the all the basic gadgets improved like the calculator, wordpas and so on.

We should also take in consideration the new additions "under the hood" for developers that indirectly provide us with more features.

Well, I understand that it's a lot to ask for but, in my opinion, after the Vista dibocle I think they'd want something that sets them so far ahead of the competition that people would think again after what happened to them when they installed Vista.
